Over 4.8 million players have added Hollow Knight: Silksong to their Steam wishlists.

Data from Alinea Analytics shows the game’s biggest wishlist crowds come from the US (20%) and China (15%), with Russia, Germany, Japan, and the UK also in the top ten.

In comparison, EA’s upcoming Battlefield 6 sits in second place with 2.8 million wishlists and 657,000 pre-orders, while ARC Raiders follows closely with 2.5 million.

Dying Light: The Beast and Borderlands 4 round out the top five with 2.3 million and 1.8 million, respectively.

What’s wild is how Silksong has pulled this off with so little marketing. Announced back in 2019, it’s faced delays, long silences, and the occasional tease — yet every small update becomes a mini event for fans. According to analyst Rhys Elliott, this slow “drip-feed” strategy has actually worked in the game’s favor, giving it an air of mystery in a time when most studios push constant content.

The hype isn’t without precedent. The original Hollow Knight became a breakout indie phenomenon, selling over 9 million copies on Steam and earning more than $95 million in revenue. With its polished combat, deep exploration, and striking art style, it built a loyal fanbase eager for more.

Interestingly, Alinea’s data suggests that wishlists do matter. Games with over 500,000 wishlists typically convert about 19% of players into buyers within a day of launch, hitting around 32% within a month. With Silksong sitting nearly ten times that threshold, expectations are through the roof.

With Gamescom just around the corner and Silksong confirmed to be playable at the event, fans are speculating that a release date – or perhaps even a surprise launch – could be imminent. Whatever happens, it’s clear that Team Cherry’s sequel is shaping up to be one of the biggest gaming moments of 2025.
