Team Cherry Confirms Hollow Knight Switch 2 Edition, Silksong Expansion Coming in 2026

Team Cherry is closing out 2025 with big news for Hollow Knight fans. Following the massive success of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the studio has announced its first major expansion, a new port of the original game for Nintendo Switch 2, and updates across all platforms.

Major Sales Milestone

Team Cherry has now officially confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong sold over 7 million copies worldwide, with “millions more” players experiencing it through Xbox Game Pass.

In a holiday blog, Team Cherry expressed gratitude to the community: "It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!). Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further."

Sea of Sorrow DLC

To celebrate this milestone, Team Cherry announced the first major expansion for Silksong, titled Sea of Sorrow, set to release free for all players in 2026. The nautically themed DLC will continue Hornet’s journey with new areas, bosses, and tools to master.

A teaser trailer offered glimpses of eerie oceanic environments and mysterious foes, though the studio is keeping most details under wraps until closer to launch. Much like the original Hollow Knight, this expansion will be free for all owners.

Hollow Knight Switch 2 Port and Updates

While Silksong commands the spotlight, Team Cherry also revealed plans for the original Hollow Knight. The 2017 indie classic is being enhanced for the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing technical upgrades such as higher frame rates, improved resolutions, and new graphical effects.

The Switch 2 edition will launch in 2026, and existing Switch owners will receive the upgrade at no extra cost.

Beyond the Switch 2 port, Hollow Knight is also receiving updates across all platforms. PC players can already access improvements via public beta branches on Steam and GOG, which include support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios — perfect for Steam Deck and ultrawide monitor users. Additional graphical and performance upgrades are scheduled to roll out before the full release in 2026.

Collectible Figurines

To mark the occasion, Team Cherry partnered with artist Alex from Studio Tyto and Fangamer to produce collectible figurines featuring Hornet and other characters, now available for pre‑order.
