For the first time ever, India will have its own national qualifier for the Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC), thanks to a new collaboration between Skyesports and the Financial Modeling World Cup (FMWC).

The India Qualifier is set to take place in Chennai, marking a significant step for Indian representation in the world of competitive Excel.

This unique tournament is being supported by the Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS) and opens a path for one skilled Excel user to represent India on a global stage.

The winner of the India Qualifier will head to Las Vegas for the MEWC 2025 Round of 64, with a fully-funded trip and additional perks, including a three-day financial modeling training camp in Vegas worth over ₹1,00,000.

What makes the MEWC different from your usual esports tournaments is its focus on logic, creativity, and analytical problem-solving — all done within Microsoft Excel. No intense button mashing here, just some serious number crunching, formula building, and sharp thinking.

The India leg of the championship will kick off with three open online qualifier rounds, and registration is currently live on the official Microsoft Excel World Championship India website. Anyone in India can take part, making this a great opportunity for students, professionals, or anyone with a flair for formulas.

Once registered, participants will receive a link via email to access the competition platform just before the event begins. They'll have 45 minutes to begin their task and 30 minutes to solve and submit it.

The top 12 scorers from these online rounds will qualify for the national finals, to be held live at the Skyesports HQ studio in Chennai and streamed online via the YouTube channel.

The national champion will earn the honor of wearing the Indian flag on their jersey and competing at the MEWC 2025 World Finals, which features a $61,500 prize pool.

According to Shiva Nandy, Founder and CEO of Skyesports,

“The India Qualifier for the Microsoft Excel World Championship is an esports tournament like no other. It provides professionals across the country with an opportunity to demonstrate their spreadsheet skills on a national platform. Hosting the finals at our studio enables us to produce a high-quality live show, and we’re proud to support the winner in their journey to represent India in Las Vegas this December.”

For those unfamiliar, Microsoft Excel Esports takes a common workplace tool and transforms it into a competitive platform. Participants solve challenging, game-style tasks using Excel — no financial background is required. It’s all about applying formulas, logical strategies, and creative thinking.

Each MS Excel Esports Battle sends 9 players into the playoffs, joined by 150 from other qualifiers, 16 FMWC players, 8 regional chapter winners, and 1 wild card — forming a total pool of 256 competitors. These participants go through playoff rounds to earn their spot at the in-person finals in Las Vegas from December 1 to 3. There's also a Last Chance Qualification Round for those attending the Active Cell Training Camp.

Registrations are open now, and the MEWC 2025 India Finals will be livestreamed.
