Kuwait Seeks to Block Roblox Amid Global Scrutiny and Player Backlash

Kuwait’s Ministry of Information has requested that the Ministry of Communications block Roblox, citing "potential dangers to children," according to a report by Gulf News (spotted by RTC).

The move comes at a time when Roblox is already facing one of its toughest periods in recent years. Between multiple lawsuits, including the most recent one filed in Louisiana, a growing fan petition calling for CEO David Baszucki’s removal, an exodus of creators frustrated with the platform’s negligence to address concerns, and mounting government scrutiny, the platform has found itself in a difficult spotlight.

For Kuwait, the concerns are very specific. Local media reports that segments of the public have long raised complaints about Roblox, arguing that the game “contradicts moral values and social customs, contains scenes of bloody violence, and promotes aggression and inappropriate behaviour.” These criticisms aren’t new, but this formal request to block the platform signals that authorities may be ready to take stronger action in response to public pressure.

It’s worth noting that Kuwait wouldn’t be the first country to restrict Roblox. Several others, including Qatar, Oman, Turkiye, and China, have already taken similar steps, often citing the risk of exposing children to harmful content or themes that clash with local values.

Jordan and even North Korea have joined that list, framing the bans around protecting the “mental health and well-being of minors.”

Meanwhile, Indonesia is also considering a similar step, as its Ministry of Communication and Digital has formally requested Roblox to establish a local office and comply with child protection standards within two months or face a ban.

This is a developing story. We’ll bring you updates as they come in.
