Macho Man Randy Savage Headlines New DLC for RetroMania Wrestling, Launching September 13

RetroMania Wrestling is gearing up for its biggest DLC update yet, with none other than Macho Man Randy Savage set to join the roster. This marks a major moment for the indie wrestling game scene, as Savage will be the sixth and final addition in the upcoming downloadable content launching on September 13, 2025, across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
The DLC pack won’t be bringing the Macho Man in alone. He’ll be accompanied by 5 other wrestling legends including Magnum T.A., the iconic tag team Demolition (Ax and Smash), and The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson). This lineup is a clear homage to old-school wrestling fans, adding to RetroMania’s already nostalgia-packed offering.
In an interview for the Insider Gaming Developer Spotlight, RetroMania creator Mike Hermann shared how Savage's addition came together. After spotting the late wrestling icon in WrestleQuest and seeing Matt Cardona’s Major Bendies release a Savage action figure, Hermann was inspired to reach out to the estate managing the Macho Man’s legacy.
“They got back to me pretty quickly,” Hermann said, reflecting on the moment. “They were really impressed with what we had done and they saw that it would be a great fit for Macho Man to be in RetroMania.”
But there’s more than just wrestlers in this DLC. RetroSoft Studios is delivering a mix of free and premium updates. Free features include new tag team mechanics, more moves, a leap frog and drop-down system, improved animations, various camera modes, customizable walk speeds, and even the option to toggle the HUD.
On the paid side, the $10 DLC unlocks:
6 new wrestlers
3 new arenas
6 new handicap match types
A House Show Mode with random event cards
A Tournament Mode for both single and tag team competitions
Wrestler gear customization
Tag Team and World Championship titles
A title tracking system
A brand-new “Attract Mode” intro video
Originally released in 2021, RetroMania Wrestling is a modern tribute to the golden era of arcade wrestling games. Developed by RetroSoft Studios, it’s positioned as the spiritual successor to WWF WrestleFest (1991), complete with pixel-art visuals and classic, timing-based gameplay. The game already includes various modes like Story Mode, Versus, Tag Team, Retro Rumble, and Steel Cage Matches.
Recent updates have introduced customizable wrestler gear, House Show and Tournament modes, and two new championship titles. The game now supports a roster of 19+ wrestlers, including fan favorites like The Road Warriors, Nikita Koloff, James Storm, Chris Bey, and the Blue World Order. With over 21 arenas, ranging from beach stages to hardcore venues, there’s no shortage of throwback flair.
Reception-wise, the game continues to earn praise for its tight mechanics and retro style. While some fans have pointed out its short story mode and the absence of female wrestlers, RetroMania maintains a strong following among arcade wrestling enthusiasts.
