Marvel Rivals developers have officially confirmed that Placement Matches will be coming to the game’s ranked mode in future seasons, though there’s no set release date yet.
The announcement follows months of community feedback about the current ranked system, which has been a point of frustration for many players since the game’s launch in December 2024.
Right now, when a new season begins, ranked progress resets in a way that often drops high‑ranked players several tiers down. This has led to the first few days of each season feeling wildly unbalanced, as top‑tier competitors end up matched against lower‑ranked players. The result? A rocky start for anyone trying to climb the ladder.
In the latest Dev Vision video, the team acknowledged these concerns. Lead combat designer Zhiyong confirmed they are “already working on implementing Placement Matches,” but stressed that it’s a “complex feature with a lot of moving parts” and will require more development time and thorough testing before it’s ready.
While the feature won’t make it into Season 4, the developers say they’re “pushing forward as quickly as we can.” Many fans are now speculating that Placement Matches could debut in Season 5, expected in early November, though nothing is confirmed.
For now, players can look forward to Season 4’s new content — including hero additions, balance changes, and quality‑of‑life updates.
