Marvel Rivals Season 5 Release Times, New Heroes, Mode, Team-ups All Explained

Updated: 16 hours ago

Marvel Rivals Season 5 officially launches on November 14, 2025, bringing new heroes, a massive 18v18 mode, cross-progression, and a first-anniversary celebration packed with rewards.

The update begins with scheduled maintenance on November 14. Servers will go offline at 9:00 AM UTC, and based on previous seasons, the downtime should last around 2 to 3 hours. That puts the estimated global launch window between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM UTC. Of course, things can shift if unexpected issues pop up, but that’s the general timing players can look forward to.

Now that the basics are out of the way, let’s get into the good stuff.

Season 5 Trailer Confirms Gambit and Rogue

NetEase released the first official Season 5 trailer earlier this week, and it finally confirmed what fans had been speculating for weeks: Gambit and Rogue are the next additions to the playable roster. Immediately after the trailer dropped, the studio shared Dev Vision Vol. 11, a detailed breakdown of everything coming to Season 5.

Gambit Joins the Game at Launch

Gambit, voiced by AJ LoCascio (who also plays him in X-Men ’97), is entering the battlefield as a Strategist hero. In Season 5, he launches with a complete ability kit that blends kinetic energy control, staff-based combat, and some strong support tools.

Gambit’s Abilities Overview

  • Kinetic Shifting: Mix and match his cards to heal allies, cleanse debuffs, or knock back enemies with anti-heal effects.

  • Energy Staff Combat: A melee-focused energy staff stance that helps teams push through tight spaces.

  • Kinetic-Charged Aces (Ultimate): Sends energized cards to allies, boosting their jump and adding explosive power to their next few attacks.

36-Player Mode: 18v18 Conquest on Grand Garden

Launching on November 27, this is easily one of the biggest additions of the season. Marvel Rivals is getting a full-scale 18v18 Conquest mode, giving players a chaotic, cinematic battlefield with 36 heroes clashing at once.

This mode takes place on a new map called Grand Garden, designed specifically for high-mobility fights and multi-objective action.

According to NetEase’s breakdown, this mode was created to highlight team synergies, hero variety, and big “Marvel moment” power plays. So if you’ve been wanting something more chaotic than standard modes, this one is probably for you.

New Social Hub: Times Square

Another major feature arriving this season is the game’s first non-combat map, the new Times Square social hub. Up to 100 players can join the space to hang out, dance, watch videos, create meetups, and just chill without combat.

The developers said they’ve seen players forming spontaneous meetups even in combat maps, so a dedicated hub was the natural next step.

First Anniversary Celebration: Free 2,500 Units

Beginning November 27, the Season 5 anniversary celebration kicks off, and every player will receive 2,500 Units for free, roughly $25 worth of premium currency. As per the Dev Vision video, this is part of a thank-you campaign to celebrate the game’s first year.

Alongside the currency, players can also earn:

  • A Legendary Jeff the Land Shark skin

  • Multiple exclusive anniversary skins inspired by community concepts and party-themed designs

Cross-Platform Progression Arrives

After months of testing during Season 4.5, cross-progression is finally launching globally. Skins, emotes, and unlocks will now carry over between platforms. Ranked progress, however, will remain platform-specific.

Team-Up Ability Reworks

Season 5 introduces three new team-ups and retires several older ones. Here are the major highlights:

NEW Team-Up Abilities

  • Blade of Khonshu (Moon Knight + Blade)

    • Moon Knight gets +5% damage

    • Blade gains the Eclipse Edge ability

  • Explosive Entanglement (Gambit + Magneto)

    • Gambit gets +5% healing boost

    • Magneto gains the Royal Blade ability

  • Sword of Duality (Cloak & Dagger + Hawkeye)

    • Hawkeye gains Moonlit Slash

Retired / Removed Team-Ups

  • Luna Force

  • Operation Microchip

  • Magneto removed from Mental Projection

  • Hawkeye removed from Chilling Assault

Updated Team-Ups

  • Black Widow added to Primal Flame, gaining Phoenix Sniper bullets

PvE Future Plans

The Halloween Marvel Zombies mode was apparently built in just six months, according to developer notes. It was a test run, and because players loved it, NetEase confirmed that more PvE experiences are actively in development, including new maps, more supported heroes, and thematic variations for next year.

Ranked Overhaul and Placement System

Ranked mode is finally swapping hard resets for placement matches. Each season will now require 10 placement games that determine your starting rank. You can even rank higher than your previous season if you perform well.

Placement Matches (NEW System)

  • Each season starts with 10 placement matches

  • Determines starting rank

  • No more hard resets

  • You can place higher than your previous rank if you perform well

  • If all 10 placements are finished in the first half, the result carries to second half

  • If not finished, players must redo placements in Season 5.5 to qualify for rewards

Ranking Logic

  • Season 5 starting rank is based on:

    • Your highest rank from Seasons 0–3

    • Your final rank in Season 4

  • Not a direct carry-over — converted using a new formula

Queue Restrictions

  • Below Grandmaster: queue as 2, 3, 4, or 6 players

  • Celestial / Eternity / Top 500: duo-only

  • During placements: max 3 players if anyone hasn’t completed placements

Ranked Rewards

  • Seasonal Skin:

    • Reach Gold

    • Play 10 total matches

    • Reward delivered in Season 5.5

  • Crest of Honor & Nameplate Frames:

    • Now given once per full season instead of twice

  • Matchmaking refinements to reduce unfair rank gaps
