Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater has already crossed one million units shipped and sold digitally worldwide as of August 28 — the very same day it launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

A full remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Delta keeps the original’s gripping Cold War spy-thriller story intact while rebuilding its world with Unreal Engine 5 visuals, 3D audio, and modernized controls.

Players can choose between a new over‑the‑shoulder “New Style” camera or the classic “Legacy Style” overhead view, making it accessible to both newcomers and long-time fans.

Konami has also added a range of extra modes. Snake vs. Monkey returns on PS5 and PC, while Xbox players get the quirky Snake vs. Bomberman crossover. Later this year, the all‑new Fox Hunt multiplayer mode will arrive, offering stealth‑driven hide‑and‑seek gameplay.

Post‑campaign bonuses include the comedic Secret Theater and a fully reimagined Guy Savage Delta mini‑game from PlatinumGames.

The remake’s attention to detail extends to its battle damage system, where Snake’s clothing, bruises, and wounds persist throughout the game, telling a visual story of each player’s journey. This, combined with lush jungle environments and cinematic cutscenes, has earned praise for its authenticity and immersion.

Critics have largely welcomed Delta’s faithful approach. Beebom scored it 9/10, calling it “a masterpiece that modernizes a classic without losing its soul.” Eurogamer awarded a perfect 5/5, describing it as “a surprisingly sensitive remake” that benefits from the involvement of original developers. IGN gave it 8/10, praising its engaging story and stealth gameplay, while PC Gamer rated it 87/100, noting it’s “a gorgeous remake” that could have pushed a bit further. On Metacritic, the PS5 version sits in the mid‑80s, and Steam reviews are around 83% positive.

The consensus is clear: Delta is a near shot‑for‑shot recreation of MGS3, preserving its story, voice acting (including David Hayter’s return as Snake), and eccentric boss fights, while delivering a major visual upgrade. However, some reviewers point out dated mechanics like manual injury treatment, occasional frame‑rate dips on PS5, and the absence of significant new story content.
