Microsoft is reportedly developing three new Xbox controller prototypes for future release.
Jez Corden from Windows Central revealed this information during an episode of the Xbox Two Podcast. According to Corden, Microsoft is working on three different controller models to meet various gamer needs and budgets.
The first prototype is a "basic, cheaper controller" similar to the current standard Xbox controller but with some "next-generation improvements." While specific details weren't shared, this model would likely be the most affordable option for gamers who want an updated controller without premium features.
The second controller, reportedly codenamed "Sebile," would be a mid-range option. This prototype had previously leaked in 2023 and is expected to be priced similarly to the Xbox Elite Core controller.
For serious gamers, the third prototype is what Corden called an "Elite Elite Elite" controller, essentially an Xbox Elite Series 3. This would be the premium option with the most advanced features and, naturally, the highest price tag.
One of the most interesting features mentioned for the two higher-end controllers is direct-to-WiFi cloud support. As Corden explained, "Instead of connecting your controller via Bluetooth, then your phone sending your controller signal up to the cloud, which adds a few milliseconds of latency, your controller will directly connect to your router as a WiFi connection."
This technology would reduce input lag during cloud gaming, making it more responsive for players. The feature resembles what Google Stadia used before its shutdown, showing that Microsoft may be learning from previous cloud gaming attempts in the industry.
No specific release dates were mentioned, though there was speculation about announcements potentially coming next year or alongside the next Xbox console generation.
