Capcom has officially detailed the second free title update for Monster Hunter Wilds, set to arrive on June 30, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The update brings back iconic monsters, reintroduces underwater combat, adds weapon customization, and launches new seasonal events — all in an effort to revive enthusiasm after recent community backlash.

The update’s headline feature is undoubtedly the return of Lagiacrus, the electric Leviathan from Monster Hunter Tri. While its inclusion was teased in the first update, players now have a full look at what the creature brings to the table — and it’s more than just nostalgia. In a bold move, Capcom is reintroducing underwater combat, a divisive mechanic from the series’ earlier days, but this time with significant reworks.

During the Lagiacrus hunt, players will be dragged into underwater sequences where traditional weapon attacks are disabled. Instead, hunters will need to rely on their Slinger to trigger environmental traps or grapple onto the monster for a cinematic knife stab — yes, the very knife usually reserved for carving carcasses.

Lagiacrus won’t be alone, though. The update also marks the return of Seregios, a flying wyvern known for its aggressive dive attacks and sharp scale projectiles. This monster last appeared in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and will bring back the dreaded Bleed status. Without Wirebugs — a mobility mechanic from Rise — the fight against Seregios is expected to be more grounded and punishing.

Both monsters will be available in 8-star Tempered versions for players who reach Hunter Rank 41 or above. To unlock them, you’ll first need to complete the main quest “A World Turned Upside Down.” For Lagiacrus, players must also complete the “Forest Doshaguma” side quest.

Beyond monsters, the second title update introduces a Layered Weapons system, a long-requested feature that allows hunters to customize weapon appearances without affecting performance. To access this feature, players must forge the final version of a weapon tree. Layered versions of Palico weapons will also be available.

As part of the update, players can now choose Eric as a handler, replacing the default companion Alma if desired. Additionally, a new support hunter named Mina joins the roster. Armed with a sword and shield, Mina can accompany solo players on quests, giving them more tactical flexibility in the field.

Capcom is also launching a summer-themed seasonal event, Festival of Accord: Flamefete, which runs from July 23 to August 6. This in-game festival includes new gestures, armor sets, pop-up camp decorations, and unique meals. Special quests during the event offer limited-time rewards, encouraging players to log in and participate during the short window.

Another highlight is the introduction of Arch-Tempered Uth Duna, a more powerful variant of the massive Leviathan. This limited-time event quest will run from July 30 to August 20 and is restricted to players with Hunter Rank 50 or higher. Completing the challenge will unlock the new Uth Duna γ armor sets for both hunters and Palicos.

Capcom is also rolling out some smaller but welcome changes to the game’s Photo Mode, including new brightness filters and the ability to toggle characters like Alma, your Palico, and Seikret from view — useful for those who want clean, monster-focused shots.

One of the more surprising additions is a collaboration with Fender, the legendary guitar brand. From August 27 to September 24, players can undertake a special event quest to earn a Fender-themed gesture that lets their hunter “rock out” with an in-game version of the Rathalos Telecaster guitar — a nod to the real-life $2,000 collectible released in Japan.

All of this comes at a time when Monster Hunter Wilds is facing tough criticism from its player base. The game’s recent reviews on Steam have dipped into the “Overwhelmingly Negative” category, with fans citing lack of endgame content, unsatisfying difficulty scaling, and persistent performance issues on PC.

However, this update appears to directly address some of those concerns. For instance, Tempered monsters have been noticeably buffed, offering a greater endgame challenge. The addition of iconic monsters like Lagiacrus and Seregios also brings a sense of excitement that’s been missing for many fans.

Moreover, Capcom has committed to improving PC performance. As per the official patch notes, the upcoming update will add DLSS 4 and FSR 4 support, along with better upscaling and frame generation options in the settings menu. These technical fixes are expected to resolve many of the ongoing performance complaints from PC players.

Looking ahead, Capcom also teased that Title Update 3 will arrive in late September 2025. It’s set to introduce another new monster and a Fall-themed Festival of Accord, giving players even more to look forward to.
