It looks like another major video game franchise might be headed to your Netflix queue. According to journalist Jez Corden on a recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Netflix is reportedly working on a new series based on a popular Blizzard Entertainment game.
While chatting about the success of recent game-to-screen projects like Minecraft and Fallout, Corden casually dropped what might be a massive hint for fans:
“I heard! I'm not going to say what game it is, but there's a Blizzard franchise that's getting some kind of Netflix treatment,” he said.
Although Corden stopped short of naming the specific title, he did suggest that we might get an official reveal at BlizzCon 2026, scheduled for this September.
Could It Be Diablo or Overwatch?
This isn’t the first time whispers of a Blizzard-Netflix partnership have surfaced. As highlighted by The Gamer, talks between the two companies reportedly began as early as 2020. However, those discussions were put on hold after Blizzard filed a lawsuit against Netflix, accusing the streaming giant of poaching one of its key executives.
Interestingly, around that same time, rumors swirled about possible Diablo and Overwatch adaptations. With conversations between the two companies apparently back on the table, it’s reasonable to think that either franchise could be in the spotlight again.
Why an Overwatch Series Makes Sense Right Now
If we had to guess, Overwatch might be the more strategic choice—especially considering recent player trends. Overwatch 2 has seen a noticeable dip in its player base, with many jumping ship for Marvel Rivals, the new kid on the hero-shooter block. A high-quality Netflix series could inject new energy into the franchise, reigniting interest among old fans while attracting fresh players.
It wouldn’t be the first time a streaming adaptation gave a game a second wind. The Fallout series on Prime Video significantly boosted player numbers across the franchise. Likewise, The Last of Us Part 1 saw sales soar by over 200% following its hit HBO adaptation.
Even Cyberpunk 2077 saw a resurgence thanks to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix, which launched around the same time as the game's next-gen update. And let's not forget the recent Minecraft movie, which reportedly boosted engagement on the mobile game by 32%.
What’s Next?
If this Blizzard-Netflix collaboration moves forward, it will join the growing lineup of game adaptations that are bridging the gap between gaming and mainstream entertainment. Reports state that Netflix is already working on some high-profile adaptations such as Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft), Gears of War, Splinter Cell, Sifu, and even Dungeons and Dragons with Hasbro.
While we don’t yet know which Blizzard universe will be hitting our screens, the mere possibility is enough to get fans buzzing.
