A Nintendo Direct is reportedly lined up for September, continuing the company’s long-running trend of fall showcases.
According to SwitchForce, which has a history of sharing accurate Nintendo updates, the presentation is planned for September 12. While that date hasn’t been officially confirmed, it would interestingly fall just one day before the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
Adding to the credibility, sources told VGC that a Nintendo Direct is indeed expected in mid-September. This wouldn’t come as a surprise, since Nintendo has consistently held September Directs nearly every year, with 2024 being a rare exception.
Still, some fans remain cautious. As pointed out in community discussions, September 12 lands on a Friday this year — a day Nintendo rarely uses for Directs — leading to guesses that it could instead happen earlier in the week.
While Nintendo has yet to confirm the lineup, much of the buzz surrounds Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game recently received an ESRB rating, following its earlier classification by South Korea’s board in July, suggesting a release date announcement could be near. Nintendo last shared a trailer for the title in March, reaffirming its launch plans for both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 within this year.
It’s also worth remembering that Nintendo just wrapped up a Kirby-focused presentation. That Direct gave fans a deep dive into Kirby Air Riders, the sequel to the 2003 GameCube classic, now scheduled to launch on November 20 for Switch 2.
Now, fans will be watching closely, especially with Mario’s milestone anniversary and Metroid’s long-awaited return hanging in the balance.
