Here’s a quick look at the global schedule:

This marks the second Nintendo Direct dedicated solely to the movie. The previous one, held on November 12, 2025, gave audiences a first look at the trailer and introduced Bowser Jr. and Rosalina.
With the upcoming event, expectations are high for another trailer, new character reveals, and possibly confirmation of the voice cast. Rumors have circulated that Yoshi may finally make an appearance, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to release on April 3, 2026, nearly three years after the record-breaking success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023. That film became the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever and even set records for animated film openings.
Universal Pictures and Illumination struck box office gold with their first Mario outing, making a sequel practically inevitable.
The follow-up was officially unveiled during the September 12 Nintendo Direct, strategically timed around Mario's 40th anniversary celebrations. The title directly draws inspiration from the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy games that graced the Nintendo Wii, which saw Mario embarking on interstellar adventures across colorful planets in cosmic battles against Bowser.
Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed during the initial reveal that the entire principal cast is returning for the sequel. Chris Pratt will once again voice Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as the villainous Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back at the helm, while composer Brian Tyler returns to craft the score.
As per Illumination's Chris Meledandri, the soundtrack will blend classic Mario themes with fresh original compositions. Interestingly, Seth Rogen's Donkey Kong was notably absent from the announcement, though rumors continue swirling about a potential spin-off film featuring the character.
Meledandri emphasized that while Super Mario Galaxy provides the core inspiration, the movie will include references and surprises spanning Mario's entire four-decade history. Miyamoto has also confirmed his hands-on involvement in production, stating he's personally enjoying working on the project.
