Nintendo has shattered records with the launch of its next-generation console. The Nintendo Switch 2, released globally on June 5, 2025, has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in just four days, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware in the company's history.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced this news in a press release.
Switch 2’s Launch Compared to Other Consoles
To put this achievement into perspective, here's how the Switch 2 stacks up against other major hardware launches:

Spain: Nintendo Doubles PlayStation at Launch
Spain saw one of the most explosive console debuts of all time. In just its opening weekend, the Nintendo Switch 2 moved 108,000 units — double the previous record held by the PlayStation Portable (54k).
It even eclipsed the PS5’s 48k launch and left the original Nintendo Switch’s 45k debut in the dust. (Gamereactor reports)

The dominance in Spain didn’t stop at hardware. Mario Kart World, bundled with many Switch 2 consoles, became Spain’s best-selling game of 2025 — selling nearly 90,000 units via bundles, and 5,000 physical copies independently.
UK: A Historic First for Nintendo
The UK market has traditionally been a challenge for Nintendo, but not this time. The Switch 2 is now the fastest-selling Nintendo console in UK history, according to NielsenIQ data (via The Game Business).
It outsold the original Switch by more than 2-to-1 and surpassed the previous top Nintendo launch — the Nintendo 3DS in 2010.
Although it doesn’t top the all-time UK launch charts, the Switch 2 still managed to secure:
