A Resident Evil Movie Clip Opened the Show

Sony opened the show with an exclusive clip from the upcoming Resident Evil movie, directed by Zach Cregger of Barbarian and Weapons fame. The film stars Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier who gets caught up in a viral outbreak.

It borrows heavily from Resident Evil 2's atmosphere but drops the story into a more contemporary setting. Bryan isn't some trained hero either. He's an ordinary guy thrown into chaos, and that's the whole point. Cregger has talked about wanting to recapture the dread of the original games, where fear comes from feeling vulnerable rather than watching someone mow down zombies with ease.

The clip shown at State of Play leaned into that idea hard, with a sequence of zombies swarming down from buildings around Bryan. It's a grim, chaotic scene, and it sets the tone early.

The timing also lines up nicely with the franchise's 30th anniversary, since the original Resident Evil launched on PlayStation back in 1996. Resident Evil hits theaters on September 18.

Marvel's Wolverine Gets a Bloody New Trailer

Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine is only a couple of weeks from launch, and the new trailer made sure everyone knew it. Logan is shown tearing through the Reavers, a cybernetic mercenary crew working for billionaire industrialist Bolivar Trask. Trask believes humans should come out on top over mutants, and the Reavers are his enforcers, kidnapping mutants on his behalf.

The footage leaned into big fights against squads of Reavers, flying around in purple and silver armor with jetpacks and energy weapons. These look like they'll be the game's standard enemy type. Beyond the Reavers, familiar faces showed up too, including Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and Mystique, alongside Omega Red, a villain who's never appeared in any of the films before but has a long history in the comics.

Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15. The standard edition runs $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 and throws in five exclusive suits, five claw sets, and bonus technique points. Pre-orders are open now.

Jin Sakai Returns in Ghost of Yotei: Most Wanted

Ghost of Tsushima fans got a nice surprise here. Jin Sakai is officially confirmed as a playable character in Ghost of Yotei: Most Wanted, the roguelike combat survival mode arriving alongside the Echoes of Sekigahara story DLC on October 1.

Players start out as Atsu, the protagonist of Ghost of Yotei, but Jin can be unlocked by completing bounty requests. Sucker Punch reworked his character model to fit better with Yotei's visuals, though the studio was careful to keep him faithful to how he looked and fought in Tsushima. That means all four of his original combat stances are back, even though Yotei itself moved away from a stance-based system.

Jin wields his signature katana, plus a Sticky Bomb and a Hankyu bow. His Ultimate is the "Dance of Wrath" skill, which lets him target and disarm multiple enemies at once, and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance, which terrifies nearby enemies before he finishes several off in a single hit.

Most Wanted is essentially Sucker Punch's spin on a roguelike structure. Players pick a bounty, fight through waves of enemies and minibosses, and unlock perks along the way to build out a stronger loadout. Runs get harder as you go, eventually culminating in a fight against Lord Saito. There are four playable characters total, including Oyuki and Nagato alongside Atsu and Jin, each with their own weapons and abilities.

If you already own Ghost of Yotei, the Complete Edition Upgrade costs $14.99 and unlocks Most Wanted, Echoes of Sekigahara, and everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition. New players can grab the full Complete Edition for $69.99. Both DLC pieces launch October 1, and the physical Complete Edition arrives the same day.

Monster Hunter Wilds Heads to the Skies With Ascendance

Capcom used the show to drop a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the expansion that's shaping up to be one of 2027's bigger releases. The story picks up with the sudden arrival of the Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung in the Forbidden Lands, and things escalate from there.

According to Capcom's Joseph Bustos, the story jumps forward several years as the Expedition Team fortifies its position and builds a new stronghold. Eventually, the mist covering Wyveria's skies clears, revealing a brand new floating region called the Skybound Eyrie, full of ancient ruins and creatures nobody's seen before.

New monsters include Araketa, a fast flying Bird Wyvern, and Gundoraja, an Elder Dragon capable of controlling storms over the new region. There's also a new item called the Boost Bracer, which temporarily amplifies whichever weapon type you're using through the Hunter's Slinger.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is set to launch in 2027 on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Metro 2039 Finally Gets a Release Date

4A Games used its State of Play slot to confirm Metro 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027.

The game follows protagonist The Stranger as he fights his way toward the Novoreich Fortress. He's armed with weapons like the Shatun rifle and Duplet shotgun, plus tools like Molotovs. Both the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions will support 4K resolution with ray tracing at 60 FPS.

Set 15 years after the events of Metro Exodus, Metro 2039 takes players into a post-nuclear war Moscow. Pre-orders will open later this year through the PlayStation Store.

Maneater 2 Swims Into View

Tripwire Interactive and Demiurge Studios finally pulled back the curtain on Maneater 2. This time the setting is Neptune's Kingdom, an ultra luxury private island theme park built by CEO Victor Reardon, who markets it as a gateway to the grandeur of Ancient Rome. Naturally, things go wrong fast.

Players control a man eating bull shark that starts out swimming unattended through the park, with the goal of eating, exploring, and evolving her way toward freedom. The park's Marine Research division has been messing with genetics in ways that have created some strange mutations in the local marine life, which opens the door for the shark to exploit those same breakthroughs for herself.

Trip Westhaven, voiced again by Chris Parnell, returns as the shark's running commentary track. Built on Unreal Engine 5 for the first time in the series, Maneater 2 is promising much more detailed environments, better underwater lighting, and improved NPC behavior. It's coming to PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC sometime in 2027.

Crimson Desert Enhanced Sets Sail With Charting the Unknown

Pearl Abyss announced Charting the Unknown, the first paid DLC for Crimson Desert Enhanced, priced at $24.99 and launching October 16. The expansion pushes the adventure out of Pywel and onto the open ocean, letting players captain their own ship, explore new islands, and dive underwater in search of treasure and ruins.

New enemies await on both land and sea, and the housing system is getting a serious overhaul too, letting players customize homes and manage leased facilities to build up wealth. There's also more relationship building with local residents woven into the update.

LEGO Built an Entire PlayStation 1

LEGO revealed a 1,911 piece set that recreates the original 1995 PlayStation console at nearly a 1:1 scale, measuring about 10.5 inches wide once assembled. It even has working mechanical buttons, though they don't actually do anything functional.

Hidden inside the build are two miniature dioramas based on Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment's Steffi Steffen, the set is meant to celebrate more than three decades of PlayStation history.

The LEGO PlayStation set launches October 1 through PlayStation's direct store and LEGO Insiders Early Access, with general availability following on October 4. It costs $179.99 in the US, €159.99 in Europe, and £139.99 in the UK.

Final Fantasy Resonance Brings Back Turn-Based Combat

Square Enix showed a new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance, the HD-2D RPG that draws inspiration from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The game restores classic turn-based combat, wrapped in a modern pixel art style meant to evoke the series' older entries.

The story follows the first narrative arc of Brave Exvius, reimagined from the ground up rather than simply ported over. Familiar faces like Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light are set to appear, and the trailer also confirmed Sephiroth will show up as a challenge players can seek out for a special reward.

Combat runs on a timeline system that shows upcoming turn order for both allies and enemies, plus a stagger gauge that can knock enemies out of their turn entirely if depleted. There's also a "Visions" system, where completing character events grants crystallized essences that unlock new abilities, and multiple visions can be equipped together as long as they stay within a cost limit.

A free demo covering the entire first chapter is available now on PS5, with save data carrying over into the full release. Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and Switch 2.

Gundam Rogue Orbit, Hunter's Moon, and Uncanyon Round Out the New IP

Bandai Namco confirmed Gundam Rogue Orbit will launch March 5, 2027, on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. The game introduces a brand new Gundam timeline where humanity fights an unknown threat, with players stepping into the cockpit of Gundam Helix as pilot RE-X. Expect fast, melee-focused combat set against massive bosses and sprawling battlefields.

Twin Swans also revealed Hunter's Moon, described as a first-person historical folk horror adventure. Players take on the role of Lilith Thorne, an accused woman fleeing through a 17th century village while being hunted by a Witchfinder General and a local huntsman. Eavesdropping on villagers becomes a core mechanic, offering clues and aid to help her survive the night. Hunter's Moon launches October 26.

Annapurna Interactive and developer Graceful Decay unveiled Uncanyon, a puzzle adventure built around blending different realities together. Players control Sonia, a stranger caught at the intersection of multiple parallel worlds, using strange devices to pull elements of alternate realities into her current surroundings. Uncanyon is set for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC, though a specific date hasn't been shared yet.

Double Fine's Keeper Jumps to PlayStation

Double Fine confirmed that its adventure game Keeper is coming to PS5. The game stars a crumbling lighthouse and a mysterious bird, and while it earned strong reviews after launching on Xbox and PC last year, it never quite found a big audience there. Keeper was also one of Double Fine's final projects before Microsoft cut ties with the studio, so its arrival on PlayStation, and the fact that it was announced during Sony's own showcase, feels a little pointed.

Konami Shows Off Rev. Noir and Rhapsody in Scarlet

Konami gave fans another look at Rev. Noir, a hack-and-slash game following an amnesiac protagonist teaming up with a mysterious girl to deal with a deadly phenomenon called the Lightfall. The combat blends JRPG systems with real-time action, and the enemy designs lean grotesque alongside some genuinely nimble human bosses. It's still slated for a vague 2027 window.

More notably, Konami also announced Rhapsody in Scarlet, an entirely original action IP set in 1920s New York City. Players control Ellie Myers, a jazz singer and magus who gets pulled into a mafia conspiracy built on secret magic. Her companion is Sköll, a wolf pulled from Norse mythology, and she can also call on the beasts Balhut and Thunderbird. Combat trades the usual weapon-swap system found in most character action games for a four-layer structure that blends close-range spellwork, long-range projectiles, area attacks, and beast techniques, all working together at once.

Rhapsody in Scarlet is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no release date has been set yet.

Saros Is Getting a Free Update

Housemarque's Saros, which launched back in April, is getting a free update later this year called Zenith. It adds a new Overlord Rush mode where players fight through overlord enemies from the main game while competing on leaderboards, plus a New Game Plus-style mode called Eclipse Layers with extra difficulty, modifiers, and secrets. New accessibility options are also part of the package.

Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Update

Polyphony Digital is rolling out the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update across two releases this year, with the first arriving in October and the second in December, just ahead of the franchise's 30th anniversary in 2027.

October brings Sportsland SUGO, a Japanese circuit known for its elevation changes and flowing corners. December brings back Autumn Ring, a fan favorite track that dates back to the original Gran Turismo. Twelve new cars are planned across both updates, though Polyphony hasn't detailed which ones yet. Online Drift Trials and Shuffle Races are also joining the mix, along with a Car Viewer feature and a Concierge tool for buying used and legend cars.

Family Mode arrives with the December portion of the update, designed to make it easier for players of different skill levels to play together without it feeling like a beginners-only mode.

Until Dawn 2 Gets a Release Date

Sony confirmed Until Dawn 2: Choice and Consequences launches January 28, 2027, exclusively on PS5. Developer Firesprite has teamed up with AdHoc Studio, the team behind the acclaimed narrative game Dispatch.

The story follows the Dead True crew, a group of ghost hunters who built a following by faking every scare they filmed. When a network sends them to investigate real supernatural activity on Akishima Island, the irony of the premise becomes the whole point. Along the way, a survivor named Yoona warns the crew that the island hides something far worse than anything they've ever staged.

The sequel expands the original's Butterfly Effect system to operate across the entire group rather than tracking individual outcomes alone. That means choices don't just decide who lives or dies. They also shift trust and group dynamics for the rest of the story. Peter Stormare is back as Dr. Hill too, continuing his role as the psychiatrist who checks in between chapters.

Pre-orders open September 10 on the PlayStation Store. The Standard Edition includes Dr. Hill themed bonuses like a classic outfit, a holiday costume, and collectible bobbleheads. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a Y2K Neon Vibes outfit pack for all eight playable characters, along with a post-completion mode called Diorama of Death that lets players revisit fatalities from different perspectives.

Sony revealed a pair of GTA 6-themed DualSense controllers inspired by Vice City's neon aesthetic. They come in Black and White Limited Editions, each capturing a different side of the city, and both feature a color-shifting finish along with palm tree textures molded into the grips and a GTA 6 logo on the touchpad.

Price: $84.99 in the US, €84.99 in Europe, £74.99 in the UK, ¥12,480 in Japan

Pre-orders begin September 10, and both controllers launch November 19 alongside GTA 6 itself. The White edition will be widely available through PlayStation Direct and retailers, while the Black edition is mostly limited to PlayStation Direct with some retailers carrying limited stock elsewhere.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Closes the Show With a Release Date

Final Fantasy VII Revelation wrapped up the broadcast, and it came with a real release date this time: April 8, 2027. The final chapter of the Remake trilogy is leaning hard into open-world exploration, letting players use the Highwind airship to drop into locations from above.

On the ground, chocobo companion Pico works as both a mount and a combat ally. Combat itself is getting a shake-up through the new FITS system, which offers four alternate outfits, Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner, each altering a character's abilities and appearance. Players can also swap between any party member on the fly during most of the game, and quests will shift depending on who's leading the group at the time.

Queen's Blood, the popular card minigame from Rebirth, makes a comeback too, this time with a storyline centered on Red XIII facing new opponents. A new grappling hook helps with traversal, and Square Enix confirmed that Rocket Town will finally appear as an explorable area.

Day One Edition costs $69.99 and comes with the base game plus a Magic: The Gathering promo card. The Deluxe Edition is $99.99 and includes a SteelBook case, mini soundtrack, and a 120-page artbook.

Two story expansions are already planned post-launch, one centered on Sephiroth and another focused on Vincent's history with the Turks. Pre-orders are live now across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

New Classics and PS Plus Additions

Sony also used the show to add three more games to the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalogue. Ratchet & Clank, Dino Crisis, and Mega Man X: Command Mission are all joining later this year, though exact dates weren't shared.

Separately, the 2025 co-op looter shooter Mycopunk is set to join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue later this year as well, available to both Extra and Premium subscribers.
