Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Coming by Early 2026

Prince of Persia

Ubisoft has confirmed that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will release by April 2026. This long-awaited project, which was first announced in 2020, is finally showing signs of progress after experiencing several delays and development challenges.

The game is now scheduled to launch during Ubisoft's 2025-2026 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2026.

This news was revealed during Ubisoft's latest earnings call, where the company outlined its upcoming releases while emphasizing a shift toward focusing on quality rather than rushing flagship titles to market.

The remake's development journey has been far from smooth. Initially entrusted to Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai studios, the project faced its first delay in December 2020, just months after being announced. After another indefinite delay in February 2021, Ubisoft made a major change in May 2022 by transferring development responsibilities to Ubisoft Montreal – the same studio that created the original 2003 classic.

This move appears to have helped the project gain momentum. According to Ubisoft's recent statements, the game has passed an "important internal milestone" and is now entering its "full production phase." The Montreal team isn't working alone, though. They're receiving support from several co-development studios located in Toronto, Bucharest, Paris, and Pune.

Reports from Insider Gaming suggest that fans should expect a completely rebuilt game rather than a simple graphics update. The remake is reportedly taking a more "authentic" approach to the setting, with even the voice casting seeing changes. According to these reports, Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced the Prince in the original game, will be replaced by a Persian actor, though this hasn't been officially confirmed by Ubisoft.

The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released in November 2003 for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and PC. It was both a critical and commercial success, introducing innovative time-manipulation mechanics that influenced many games that followed. The remake aims to preserve the original's beloved narrative and charm while modernizing the visuals, controls, and combat mechanics to meet contemporary gaming standards.

While waiting for the remake, fans of the franchise have other Prince of Persia content to enjoy. Ubisoft announced that The Lost Crown will receive story DLC in September, and The Rogue Prince of Persia just received its first major free update on June 10.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will join other upcoming Ubisoft titles scheduled for the same fiscal year, including Anno 117: Pax Romana, Rainbow Six Mobile, and The Division Resurgence. Ubisoft has also mentioned that "other titles" will be announced at a later date.
