Key Highlights
Mafia: The Old Country is the headliner this month. Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, it launched in August 2025 as a prequel to the Mafia series set in early 1900s Sicily. Players take on the role of Enzo Favara, a young man drawn into the Torrisi crime family, across a linear, narrative-driven story built around cover shooting, melee combat, stealth, and horseback traversal. The game is a deliberate return to the focused, cinematic structure of the original Mafia titles rather than the open-world format. It holds around a 73 on Metacritic and a 74 on OpenCritic, with consistent praise directed at its atmosphere, characters, and Sicilian setting. Criticism has pointed at some repetitive mechanics and an underused map. A story DLC and definitive edition have since expanded the package.
Horizon Forbidden West is making a return to the PS Plus catalog. Developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the open-world action RPG originally launched in February 2022 and remains one of the best-looking games on PlayStation hardware. Players return as Aloy, exploring a post-apocalyptic American West filled with robotic creatures across an enormous map with refined combat, underwater exploration, and a new range of traversal tools. It holds an 88 on Metacritic and a 9/10 from IGN. For anyone who missed it the first time around, this is a straightforward recommendation.
Mycopunk is the most exciting addition to this month’s catalog for co-op shooter fans and is arriving day one on October 20. Developed by Pigeons at Play and published by Devolver Digital, it is a mission-based first-person looter shooter for up to four players in which a team of robot rejects battles a planet-wide fungal infestation. The game features a grid-based weapon upgrade system, chaotic synergistic co-op, and the kind of “one more mission” loop that made games like Deep Rock Galactic so popular. It spent time in Early Access on PC before its full launch, earning a Very Positive rating on Steam with praise for its customisation depth, co-op flow, and strong value.
The Midnight Walk, developed by MoonHood and published by Fast Travel Games, originally launched in May 2025 and is available a little earlier than the rest of the catalog, from October 14. It is a first-person dark fantasy adventure built entirely from real clay models, scanned and animated in a stop-motion style that makes it visually unlike almost anything else available. Players guide a flame-bearing creature called Potboy through a lightless world across five interconnected tales, using fire and light to navigate and survive. It holds a 77 on Metacritic but earned a 9/10 from IGN, with particular praise for its atmosphere and art direction. It also supports PS VR2 for an even more immersive experience.
Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, developed and published by Mob Entertainment, is a first-person horror puzzle adventure that continues the story from Chapter 1 inside the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory. Players use an expanded GrabPack to solve environmental puzzles and evade new threats, including the unsettling Mommy Long Legs. It originally launched on PC in 2022 before reaching consoles in late 2024. It holds a Mostly Positive rating on Steam and is best approached as part of a full playthrough of the series.
Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn Edition brings the complete package for one of the stronger recent entries in the long-running Tales series. Developed and published by Bandai Namco, the base game originally launched in September 2021 before the Beyond the Dawn expansion arrived in late 2023. This edition bundles both alongside additional extras, covering the full story of the two worlds of Dahna and Rena through real-time party combat, character-driven storytelling, and a substantial runtime. It holds around a 79 on Metacritic and is widely regarded as a solid pick for JRPG fans.
Monster Energy Supercross 25, developed and published by Milestone, was released in April 2025 and represents the annual official motorsport sim for the AMA Supercross season. Built on Unreal Engine 5, it features dynamic track deformation that creates ruts across laps, a revised career mode with rivalries and sponsorship systems, and crossplay-supported multiplayer. It holds around a 71 on Metacritic, with praise landing on the improved physics and visual presentation. It is a title squarely aimed at existing fans of the motorsport.
On the Premium side, two notable classics arrive on October 20. Dino Crisis 2, developed by Capcom and originally released in September 2000, is the action-oriented sequel to the original Dino Crisis. Players switch between Regina and Dylan across fast-paced shooting stages in a dinosaur-infested environment, with a combo-based scoring system that rewards aggressive play and funds weapon upgrades. It earned an 86 on Metacritic at launch and a 9.3 from IGN, and is considered a cult classic for its shift from survival horror to satisfying arcade action.
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, developed by Frontier Developments and originally released in 2004, rounds out the Premium additions. The third entry in the beloved theme park management series introduced full 3D graphics, a first-person Coaster Cam, sandbox mode, and deep park customisation that still holds up well today. It holds an 81 on Metacritic.
PS Plus members can also claim the Back 4 Blood Tunnels of Terror DLC at no extra cost from October 21 through November 4, with deep discounts on additional DLC packs.
