PlayStation has rolled out a major update for the PS Portal, allowing PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers to stream PS5 games directly from the cloud, eliminating the need for a console.

Until now, the PS Portal was tied to Remote Play, meaning you had to connect to your own PS5 to stream games. That limitation is finally gone. With this new update, you can stream "select" PS5 titles straight from the cloud, whether they’re part of your personal library or included in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.

Sony first tested cloud streaming for PS5 titles in late 2024, but it was limited to a small beta catalog. Now, the feature is officially live and much broader in scope.

According to the PlayStation Blog, "thousands of PS5 games" you own are supported at launch. That includes heavy hitters like Astro Bot, GTA V, Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yotei, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, and Resident Evil 4.

On top of that, "hundreds of compatible games" from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, such as God of War Ragnarök, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, are also available to stream.

The update also brings a redesigned home screen. You’ll now see three tabs: Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search. Remote Play works as before, letting you connect to your PS5 directly. The new Cloud Streaming tab is where you’ll find "compatible titles" ready to play instantly, while the Search tab makes it easier to look up supported games.

Beyond streaming, Sony has added several quality-of-life features. There’s 3D Audio support for supported games if you’re using compatible headphones, a passcode lock for extra security, and a network status screen.

Cloud streaming also supports in-game purchases, multiplayer invites, and new accessibility options like a screen reader and adjustable text size.

For PlayStation Plus Premium members, the update officially rolled out on November 5 at 6:00 p.m. PT / November 6 at 2:00 a.m. GMT.
