PS5 Refurbished Prices Get a $100 Bump on PlayStation Direct

Sony has raised the prices of refurbished PlayStation 5 Slim consoles on its PlayStation Direct storefront, adding $100 to both available models.
The price hike affects the two main refurbished Slim variants currently listed on PlayStation Direct. Here is what the updated pricing looks like:
Refurbished PS5 Slim with Disc Drive: $549.99 (previously $449.99)
Refurbished PS5 Slim Digital Edition: $499.99 (previously $399.99)
Both units come with a 1TB SSD, the necessary cables, a single DualSense wireless controller, and a manual. The catch, of course, is that they may carry minor cosmetic imperfections, as is standard with refurbished hardware.
This move follows Sony's broader price increase for new PS5 consoles back in April. Brand-new PS5 pricing now stands at:
Standard PS5 with Disc Drive: $649.99
PS5 Digital Edition: $599.99
PS5 Pro: $899.99
Sony appears to be maintaining a consistent $100 gap between new and refurbished models.
What makes this feel even more steep is the context. Back in 2020, the PS5 launched at $499.99 with a disc drive and $449.99 without one. A refurbished unit now costs more than what a brand-new console did at launch.
Analysts point to an ongoing shortage of NAND and DRAM components pushing up manufacturing costs. Global logistics expenses and new trade barriers are adding further pressure.
There is one silver lining worth noting. The refurbished original PS5 model with a disc drive is still available at $399.00, and it has not been touched by the recent price changes. It ships with 825GB of storage instead of the Slim's 1TB, but it remains the most affordable official route into the PlayStation 5 ecosystem right now. Buyers who are sitting on the fence may want to act sooner rather than later, before that price follows suit.
