Lightspeed Studios and Level Infinite have confirmed PUBG MOBILE LIGHT, a new standalone app announced during the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) 2026 Grand Finals on August 16.
Producer Rick Li introduced the title as a way to bring the core PUBG Mobile experience to a much wider range of devices without cutting corners on quality.

What Exactly Is PUBG Mobile Light?
This isn't just another cut down mobile shooter. The team has been clear that PUBG Mobile Light is meant to feel like the real deal, just easier on storage and hardware. It's being described as "the original PUBG Mobile, now lighter," giving players a more accessible way into the same battle royale universe.
It's also worth noting this is a completely different product from the older PUBG Mobile Lite that launched years ago. That version ran smaller maps, fewer players per match, and had no account sharing or cross-play with the main app. PUBG Mobile Light ditches those limitations entirely.
Key Features Players Can Expect
Here's what stands out about the new app so far:
Small download size: roughly 1 GB on Android and under 2 GB on iOS
Instant entry with no forced tutorials or mandatory extra downloads before your first match
Modular content, letting players choose which maps or extras to install to save space
The classic Erangel map along with matching supplies and the same core combat loop as the main game
Cross-play support, so friends on the original PUBG Mobile app can still team up
Shared accounts and cosmetics, meaning progress carries over between apps
Ongoing updates that stay in sync with the main game's content roadmap
Why Is This Launch a Big Deal?
Mobile battle royale games have ballooned in size over the years, and that growth has left a lot of players behind, especially those on mid-range or older phones. Long downloads and storage pressure are real barriers, and PUBG Mobile Light is aimed squarely at fixing that.
By keeping the gameplay experience intact while trimming the technical overhead, the studio is hoping to pull in players who may have skipped the franchise entirely due to device limits. It also solves a social problem the old Lite version never addressed, since friends split across different clients can now play together without issue.
Is BGMI Getting Something Similar?
Yes. Krafton India has confirmed BGMI Lite, the India specific version of this initiative, is also on the way and targeted for launch by the end of 2026. BGMI is the localized edition of PUBG Mobile built for the Indian market, and BGMI Lite will serve as its own lighter counterpart. Exact details like download size and pre-registration dates for BGMI Lite haven't been shared yet, since the two titles are being treated as separate releases.
When Can Players Get In?
Pre-registration opens August 25, 2026 on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store
Full launch is expected later in 2026, though an exact date hasn't been locked in
Players who pre-register are encouraged to link their accounts early so cosmetics and progress transfer smoothly once the app officially goes live.
