Developed by veterans from Sony Japan Studio, the same minds behind Patapon and LocoRoco, Ratatan is finally ready to make its early access debut.

The official launch kicks off at midnight on 19th September in Japan. For those of us outside this region, the devs have shared a global rollout schedule so nobody misses out:

  • Los Angeles: Sep 18, 8:00 a.m.

  • Mexico City: Sep 18, 10:00 a.m.

  • Toronto: Sep 18, 11:00 a.m.

  • New York: Sep 18, 11:00 a.m.

  • Sao Paulo: Sep 18, 12:00 p.m.

  • London: Sep 18, 4:00 p.m.

  • Madrid: Sep 18, 5:00 p.m.

  • Paris: Sep 18, 5:00 p.m.

  • Rome: Sep 18, 5:00 p.m.

  • Berlin: Sep 18, 5:00 p.m.

  • Helsinki: Sep 18, 6:00 p.m.

  • Tokyo: Sep 19, 0:00 a.m.

  • Seoul: Sep 19, 0:00 a.m.

Price-wise, Ratatan will cost $24.99 / €24.50 / ¥2800, with a 10% discount available for the first 10 days.

That’s not a bad entry point for a game many fans have been eagerly waiting for since its Kickstarter campaign in 2023, which, as some may remember, was funded in just under an hour.

Now, let’s talk about the roadmap. According to the developers’ livestream over the weekend, three major updates are already locked in. The end of October update, titled “Prepare for the Coming Darkness” will add Super Fever Skills, new Ratatan upgrades, Cobun headwear, random events, and even an auto-optimize button for those of us who like efficiency.

By December, things get darker with the “Descent of the Dark Ratatan!” update. This one introduces Dark Ratatan Battles, brand-new scenarios, a Mythic rarity level, additional Ratakaruta duos, and some tricky stage gimmicks.

Moving into spring 2026, the game promises its biggest update yet: a completely new world, mysterious new battles, pets, achievements, console compatibility, and much more.

Right now, Ratatan is strictly a PC title (Steam), but the roadmap confirms console versions are on the horizon next year. For anyone who loved Patapon, or just wants a quirky mix of rhythm and strategy, this might be the perfect time to jump in.
