Rumors Point to Possible Injustice 3 Development as Mortal Kombat Support Ends

Injustice

It looks like the final chapter of Mortal Kombat 1 has arrived. NetherRealm Studios has quietly dropped a Definitive Edition for the game—about 20 months after its original launch. This all-in-one bundle includes the base game, the story expansion, and all DLC characters, marking what seems to be the end of the road for MK1.

Fans weren’t exactly expecting such an abrupt finish—especially after series creator Ed Boon had promised long-term support. Understandably, the sudden wrap-up has left some players feeling let down. But now, all eyes are turning to what NetherRealm could be cooking up next.

And here’s where things get interesting: the internet is buzzing with rumors of Injustice 3.

The speculation kicked off when a known leaker named MultiverSusie—famous for revealing accurate details about MultiVersus before its shutdown—posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter):

"MultiVersus shutting down is an injustice, then doing it all again is another injustice. Leaving me without any leaks is yet again another injustice."

That was soon followed by a second post that simply said:

"3."

Naturally, fans jumped to the conclusion that this could be a not-so-subtle tease for Injustice 3.

NetherRealm hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but the timing actually lines up pretty well. The last entry, Injustice 2, came out in 2017 and was a hit both critically and commercially. With Mortal Kombat 1 wrapping up and Warner Bros recently stating that they’re focusing on key franchises—including DC, Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, and Game of Thrones—an Injustice sequel feels like a logical next move.

Especially now, with MultiVersus officially shutting down this month, DC fans are left without a major superhero fighting game. An Injustice comeback could fill that gap perfectly, bringing characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more back into the competitive arena.

So, while we don’t have any official word yet, the signs are definitely pointing in one direction.
