Sega Confirms Sonic X Shadow Generations as Day-One Title for Switch 2 Launch

Switch 2, Sonic X Shadow Generations

Sega has officially confirmed that Sonic X Shadow Generations will be part of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup on June 5, 2025. This announcement brings Sega's total launch day releases to three games, joining previously announced titles Yakuza 0: Director's Cut and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S.

The latest Sonic adventure combines a remastered version of Sonic Generations with a new standalone adventure featuring Shadow the Hedgehog. Released on October 25, 2024, it offers a mix of nostalgic stages and fresh gameplay, allowing players to experience perspectives of both Sonic and Shadow. The game features stunning visuals, energetic music, and dynamic level design, making it a thrilling ride for fans.

The critical reception has been generally favorable, with a Metascore of 80 based on 78 critic reviews and a user score of 9.0. Critics praised the creative Shadow campaign, the graphical upgrades, and the homage to Sonic's legacy. However, some noted that the campaign was short, and certain boss fights lacked creativity. Overall, it has been celebrated as one of the better recent outings in the Sonic franchise.

Comprically, Sonic X Shadow Generations has already proven successful, with Sega announcing in February that the title had sold over 2 million copies across existing platforms. However, the game still hasn't surpassed Sonic Frontiers, which remains the blue blur's best-selling 3D adventure with 3.5 million copies sold.

Sega's support for the Nintendo Switch 2 won't end on launch day. The publisher has revealed plans to release Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army on June 19, just two weeks after the console's debut. Additionally, Two Point Museum is scheduled to arrive later in 2025.

Pre-orders for all these titles, except Two Point Museum, will open on April 24, with both physical and digital versions available. The three launch titles will be released simultaneously worldwide at retail stores and through the Nintendo eShop on June 5.
