The remake, developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami, originally launched on October 8, 2024, as a timed exclusive for PlayStation 5 and PC. That exclusivity window was widely believed to last a year, but until now, there had been no official word.

According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the game has now been listed for Xbox Series X|S, making it less a question of “if” and more of “when” the port will arrive.

Unsurprisingly, the ESRB has given the game an M for Mature 17+ rating, citing blood and gore, sexual themes, strong language, and violence. The rating summary also includes heavy story spoilers, so unless you already know Silent Hill 2’s infamous twists, you might want to avoid digging too deep into the listing.

The remake has already proven to be a commercial success. Within three days of release, it shipped one million copies, and by January 2025, that number had doubled. As of now, sales have surpassed 2.5 million units, pushing the franchise’s lifetime sales to over 10 million. That’s a remarkable achievement for a series that’s been dormant for so long.

One lingering question is whether the remake will include the “Born From a Wish” DLC chapter, which was briefly an Xbox-exclusive back in the original release. Recently, the voice actor for Maria confirmed she hasn’t been contacted to record new lines, suggesting the extra content may not be part of the remake. Of course, it’s always possible that work was done earlier in production or that an NDA prevents her from saying more, but for now, fans shouldn’t expect it.

At its core, Silent Hill 2 Remake retells the chilling story of James Sunderland, who ventures into the foggy town after receiving a letter from his deceased wife. The game explores themes of grief, guilt, and psychological torment, all wrapped in the unsettling atmosphere that made the 2001 original a classic.

The remake currently holds a Metacritic score of 86 and a 95% positive rating on Steam from over 47,000 reviews. That success has already paved the way for a remake of the original 1999 Silent Hill, once again helmed by Bloober Team.
