Skyesports has officially cancelled its Skyesports Masters 2025 Counter-Strike 2 tournament, along with all Tier 1 CS2 events planned for 2026.

The Indian esports organiser explained that the decision comes as part of a strategic shift “towards strengthening the Tier 2 and grassroots ecosystem.” In a social media post, Skyesports confirmed that the Masters event marks the third major cancellation this year, following the scrapping of September’s Skyesports Championship and the November World Tour. According to the company, the revised roadmap is designed to ensure “long-term sustainability” for its tournaments.
The statement further clarified that Skyesports will now focus on creating more accessible opportunities for emerging teams. “Going forward, our focus will shift towards strengthening the Tier 2 and grassroots ecosystem, creating a more sustainable pathway to the Tier 1 ecosystem,” the post read. The first step in this new direction will be the Chennai Esports Global Championship, a Tier 2 Counter-Strike 2 event.
Skyesports’ struggles in Tier 1 Counter-Strike aren’t new. Its 2024 Championship event faced technical issues that even led to BetBoom Team withdrawing mid-tournament. While that setback highlighted the challenges of competing at the highest level, Skyesports has continued to thrive in other areas, particularly with its Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) tournaments, which remain a strong platform for aspiring players.
Looking ahead, the Chennai Esports Global Championship is set to be the first major event under this renewed focus. Backed by the Tamil Nadu Government, the LAN finals will feature six teams battling for a $50,000 (~₹41.6 lakh) prize pool. The lineup will be decided through three regional qualifiers across Europe, India, and Southeast Asia, with the top two teams from each region advancing. The finals are scheduled for November 7–9, 2025.
