Sony is preparing to roll out a revised version of its PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Europe, and this time, the console will include less storage space.
Starting September 13, the updated digital-only model will ship with 825GB of SSD storage instead of the 1TB currently offered, according to reliable leaker Billbil-Kun.
What makes this update even more surprising is that the price will remain unchanged. The upcoming model will still retail at €499, the same cost as the current 1TB Digital Edition.
Interestingly, the standard PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive will reportedly keep its 1TB SSD for now, meaning only digital players are hit with this downgrade. As per the listing, the packaging for the new units will clearly display “825GB” alongside other features like 4K and HDR support.
Industry watchers suggest this change is likely a cost-management strategy. The PS5 Digital Edition has already seen two price increases in Europe since launch, jumping from €399 in 2020 to €499 earlier this year. By slightly reducing storage instead of hiking prices again, Sony appears to be balancing rising production costs with consumer expectations.
For those who rely heavily on digital downloads, this reduction might feel like a step backward, especially given how modern games often exceed 100GB each.
