Starfield coming to PlayStation 5 has been one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets, with countless hints and insider chatter fueling speculation. But the real question has always been — when will it actually happen?
According to sources cited by MP1st, Microsoft and Bethesda are currently aiming for a spring 2026 launch window for the PS5 version. That means sometime between March and mid-June 2026.
This release is expected to coincide with the game’s second expansion and several quality-of-life updates. Despite ongoing rumors, the port is reportedly not set to be announced at Gamescom 2025.
One factor behind the delayed arrival appears to be the underwhelming sales of Shattered Space, the game’s first expansion, which launched in September 2024. The DLC received mixed reviews and a lukewarm player response, and according to reports, this has influenced Microsoft’s timing for the PS5 rollout.
Released in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC, Starfield was touted as one of Bethesda’s most ambitious RPGs. The developer claimed the game reached over 10 million players in its first month, though many attribute this to Xbox Game Pass rather than direct sales. While Game Pass figures paint a picture of "success," the gaming community remains skeptical, especially given the game’s massive scale and reported budget of over $200 million.
Then, in early 2024, Microsoft shifted toward a multi-platform strategy, bringing titles like Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. More recently, Doom: The Dark Ages, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Forza Horizon 5 have also joined the cross-platform lineup.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has made it clear that exclusivity isn’t a hard rule anymore, stating earlier this year that keeping games locked to one platform “doesn’t work” for Microsoft’s long-term goals.
While 2025 will bring Gears of War: Reloaded to PS5 — and possibly Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 — Starfield fans on Sony’s console will need to wait until 2026, if the leaks are accurate, before charting their own path through Bethesda’s galaxy.
