Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka has made it clear that fans hoping for remakes of Sonic Adventure or its sequel shouldn’t expect anything soon. While both the 1998 and 2001 titles remain some of the most cherished 3D Sonic games, Iizuka says the effort needed to modernize them would be better spent creating new experiences.
In an interview with Shacknews (via VGC), Iizuka explained that remaking the original Sonic Adventure games to meet today’s standards would require the same amount of time and energy as developing a brand-new title. With that in mind, the current plan is to focus on new content rather than revisit older entries. “I am really appreciative of everyone who likes the Sonic Adventure series,” he said, “but… maybe I should just make a brand-new title, and that’s why there are currently no plans.”
This echoes a similar stance Iizuka shared back in 2022 during a conversation with VGC. While he admitted that Sonic Adventure 3 is something he’s thought about, it’s not something in development. His focus then—and now—remains on newer projects like Sonic Frontiers and the upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
That new racing title, CrossWorlds, is set to launch on September 25, 2025.
That doesn’t completely rule out a future revisit, but for now, fans will have to be content with new adventures rather than polished-up old ones.
