Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally set to release on September 4, 2025, and Team Cherry has already confirmed that DLC content will follow soon after launch.

The news came during an interview with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, where co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen opened up about their long development journey and what’s next for the highly anticipated sequel.

During the conversation, Gibson hinted that Team Cherry already has a roadmap for what comes after launch. While he kept most details under wraps, he admitted that the studio’s ambitions go beyond just shipping the base game. “The most interesting thing now is what can we add to it next. We got a plan. Admittedly, some of the plans for that stuff are kind of ambitious as well, but hopefully we can achieve some of it,” Gibson said. Pellen echoed the same excitement, calling the future of Silksong “equally as exciting” as its long-awaited debut.

This reveal means that Silksong fans won’t just be playing the base game on release — they can also look forward to new expansions in the future.

Why Did Silksong Take So Long?

For years, the big question was why Silksong kept being delayed. First announced in 2019, most fans expected a turnaround of just a couple of years. Instead, the game went silent, leaving some worried about behind-the-scenes struggles. However, according to Gibson, the answer was much simpler than many assumed.

We’ve been having fun. This whole thing is just a vehicle for our creativity anyway. It’s nice to make fun things,” he explained in the interview. Unlike larger studios tied to strict deadlines, Team Cherry chose to take its time, letting creativity drive the process rather than rushing to meet schedules.

Delays in gaming aren’t new — even Rockstar’s GTA 6 has faced constant pushbacks — but in Silksong’s case, the long wait wasn’t caused by development hell. Instead, it was all about ambition and polish. The result, according to early feedback from Gamescom, is a game that might not just meet expectations but possibly exceed them.

Release Details and Platforms

When Silksong drops on September 4, 2025, it will be available on multiple platforms, including PC (Steam, GoG, Humble Bundle), PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox (Microsoft Store/Game Pass), and both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet, but given the hype and Team Cherry’s history, expectations are high that the game will deliver solid value.
