Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is in development, with the company releasing the first concept art for the long-rumored remake as part of a broader franchise update.

The reveal came through a blog post authored by Jean Guesdon, Ubisoft's head of content for the Assassin's Creed series. The post covered a wide range of topics, from the future of Assassin's Creed Shadows to upcoming titles still years away.

But arguably the biggest moment was what fans had been waiting on for quite some time: a proper nod to the Black Flag remake. Ubisoft did not disappoint, sneaking in concept art for the game alongside some playful teasing.

"Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: 'Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.' Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon," Guesdon wrote.

So yeah, Black Flag Resynced is happening. The project's name first surfaced back in December through a European ratings board listing, which followed years of internal leaks, fan theories, and even subtle hints from the original game's lead actor.

According to earlier reports, the remake is expected to be a significant overhaul of the original, bringing visual and gameplay improvements that bring it closer in quality to last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows. New story content is said to be added to expand on Edward Kenway's life. However, the modern day gameplay sections have reportedly been removed.

As per earlier reports, Black Flag Resynced was initially expected to arrive before the end of Ubisoft's current financial year on March 31. That window has since passed, and the game was pushed to the next financial year ending March 31, 2027, following a major internal reshuffle of teams, studios, and projects at the company.

Assassin's Creed Shadows

Beyond the Black Flag news, Guesdon touched on the broader state of the franchise. Assassin's Creed Shadows, which had a rocky road through multiple delays and public controversies, is now entering "the final phase of support." That means smaller and less frequent updates going forward, though Guesdon hinted at "a few surprises" still to come.

Codename Hexe

On the next major entry, Codename Hexe, the news was light by design. Described as a "unique, darker, narrative-driven" game set during a pivotal historical moment, Hexe is still in development at Ubisoft Montreal. Guesdon himself has stepped in as creative director following the departure of industry veteran Clint Hocking.

"We are taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a little longer, but we love seeing all the enthusiasm happening on our channels and can’t wait to unveil more when the time is right."

Codename Invictus

Also in development at Ubisoft Montreal is Codename Invictus, a multiplayer PvP game being built by a team of veterans from For Honor. Guesdon acknowledged that there is a "lot of curiosity" around the project, while also clarifying that "it's a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise, but it isn't quite what the rumors have suggested."

He added that the team is exploring ways to involve the community earlier in the development process, suggesting some kind of player feedback program could be on the horizon.

More AC Games

Elsewhere, Guesdon confirmed that Ubisoft has "several" other Assassin's Creed games in various stages of development. One of them is the mobile title Assassin's Creed Jade. Co-op is also back on the table, with Guesdon saying, "We're also still looking into bringing co-op back to Assassin's Creed, a detail we know didn't go unnoticed."

On the flip side, one early-stage game was quietly cancelled. Guesdon did not name it, but noted that the lessons learned from that experience are "already helping shape our approach going forward." This lines up with Ubisoft's earlier announcement about cancelling six unnamed projects.

For fans of the classic titles, there is also something to look forward to. Ubisoft confirmed a free 60fps patch for Assassin's Creed Unity on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Additionally, multiple older Assassin's Creed titles, including Unity, will be part of Xbox's Free Play Days promotion running from April 2 to April 6.

Netflix Series

Finally, the live-action Assassin's Creed series coming to Netflix got a brief but promising mention. Guesdon teased that updates are coming "very soon," saying, "We can't wait for you to discover more. Something tells us you won't have to wait very long."

The show was first announced back in 2020, and has had a long and quiet road since. A separate Assassin's Creed game planned for Netflix Games was not mentioned at all in the update.
