Amazon MGM Studios is developing a Wolfenstein TV series, bringing the iconic Nazi-fighting video game franchise to Prime Video.

The upcoming adaptation, based on the alternate-history shooter series published by Bethesda Softworks and developed by MachineGames, marks yet another major gaming IP being translated to the screen following the success of Fallout.

The show is being led by Patrick Somerville, best known for Station Eleven and Maniac, who will serve as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Somerville, a self-professed longtime fan of Wolfenstein, joins forces with Fallout series producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Kilter Films.

Also on board are James Altman of Bethesda and Jerk Gustafsson from MachineGames, further tightening the show's connection to the original games.

The official logline keeps things simple and bold: “The story of killing Nazis is evergreen.” That single sentence hints that the series will stay true to the franchise’s brutal, unapologetic tone.

According to Variety, the story is still under wraps, and casting decisions haven’t been announced yet. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. After the official Wolfenstein account reacted to the report with a single eye emoji, fans jumped into the comments with casting ideas — the most popular being Reacher star Alan Ritchson as BJ Blazkowicz. Some even declared, “If BJ Blazkowicz isn’t the main character, don’t even bother.”

For those unfamiliar, the Wolfenstein series takes place in an alternate version of history where the Nazis won World War II and rule over much of the world. At the heart of the franchise is BJ Blazkowicz, an American soldier who spearheads a resistance movement against the fascist regime. The games blend intense action with dark sci-fi elements, including occult experiments and advanced weaponry — themes ripe for episodic TV treatment.

MachineGames has been at the forefront of the modern Wolfenstein titles, with releases like The New Order (2014), The Old Blood (2015), and The New Colossus (2017). The studio also collaborated with Arkane Lyon on Youngblood (2019) and recently launched Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. While no new Wolfenstein game has been confirmed, this move toward television has sparked speculation about a potential game announcement to coincide with the show’s release.

This new series adds to Amazon’s growing portfolio of game-to-screen projects. Following the massive success of Fallout — which was renewed for a third season even before season two airs in December 2025 — Amazon is also developing adaptations of God of War, Mass Effect, and Warhammer 40,000, the latter starring Henry Cavill.

Kilter Films, the company behind the Fallout show and now Wolfenstein, has an impressive track record with genre television, previously producing Westworld for HBO and Person of Interest for CBS.

No release date has been announced yet, but with production still in early stages, more updates are expected in the coming months.
