Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has shadow dropped on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it is available to purchase right now on the eShop.

A physical version of the game is also confirmed and set to launch on April 16, 2026.

Originally developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles X first launched on the Wii U back in 2015. The action RPG drops players onto the alien planet of Mira, where they take charge of the BLADE unit.

The mission is to protect the surviving remnants of humanity, explore an enormous open world, and piece together the planet's many mysteries.

As the story progresses, players unlock Skells, powerful mechanized suits that can fly, transform into vehicles, and be customized with different weapons and armor. On top of that, multiplayer sessions allow squads of up to 32 players to team up together.

The Definitive Edition, which previously released on Switch 1 on March 20, 2025 for $59.99, brought additional story content and quality of life improvements to the experience. Now, the Switch 2 Edition takes things a step further.

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 Edition delivers up to 4K resolution and up to 60 FPS performance in TV mode. Handheld mode also sees a boost, running at 1080p with up to 60 FPS support.

The full game is priced at $64.99 for new buyers. For those who already own the Switch 1 version (at $59.99), an upgrade path is available at just $4.99.

The Switch 2 Edition follows similar upgrades that Nintendo has rolled out for titles like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Some of those updates were free, while others came with a fee.
