Ten Call of Duty games have been taken offline temporarily as Activision conducts a four-hour maintenance window across multiple titles, some dating back over a decade.

The official Call of Duty Updates account confirmed the downtime, which runs from 3 AM to 7 AM PT (6 AM to 10 AM ET) on July 2, 2025. Affected games include everything from the latest entries like Modern Warfare III to fan-favorite classics like Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 2 (2009). While brief maintenance isn’t unusual, the sheer number of games involved — especially older ones — has sparked curiosity within the community.

Here’s the full list of titles impacted:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

  • Call of Duty: World War II

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)

So far, Activision hasn’t provided any clear reason for the simultaneous downtime across this range of games. However, speculation is already running wild. One common theory suggests this could be tied to backend updates related to anti-cheat improvements — an issue that has plagued many of the franchise’s legacy titles for years. According to some fans, if Activision intends to make these older games more accessible, especially through Xbox Game Pass, cleaning up their online environment would be a logical step.

Interestingly, not all recent titles are included in this maintenance wave. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (2020) and Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021) are notably missing, adding another layer of mystery. This has led some to wonder whether the company is preparing a bulk Game Pass drop of select titles — especially after COD: WWII recently joined the subscription service.

The maintenance notice didn’t clarify if it affects all platforms or just specific ones, but most assume it applies broadly across consoles and PC.
