Asmongold Praises Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Says It Has a 90% Chance to Win Game of the Year

Youtuber streamer Asmongold say Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is GOTY

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues to build on its incredible momentum since launching on April 24, with glowing reviews, record-breaking player engagement—and now, the approval of one of the biggest names in streaming.

Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold recently began his playthrough of the turn-based RPG and didn’t hold back in sharing his enthusiasm. “This is fun, it’s been really good – I’ve been enjoying it a lot,” he said during a stream, where he praised the game’s reaction-based combat system, particularly the skill-intensive parries and dodges that can lead to either exhilarating victories or devastating losses.

“It’s feast and famine type gameplay,” Asmongold explained. “It feels really good when you do it right, and it feels awful when you do it wrong.”

Even though he’s early into the experience, Asmon already believes it has a clear path to top honors.

“So far, I feel like the probability of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 winning Game of the Year is like 90%… The game is great, it’s a great game, just straight up no exceptions.”

Global Acclaim and Record Sales

The praise from Asmongold comes on the heels of a meteoric rise for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive.

The game has now sold over 2 million copies and peaked at 145,000 concurrent players on Steam last weekend—an impressive stat that outpaced even the Oblivion Remastered by 50%.

It's currently the highest-rated game of 2025, surpassing major titles like Split Fiction, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

With 94% positive reviews from over 67,000 Steam users, the player sentiment matches the critical acclaim as well.

Even French President Emmanuel Macron recently congratulated the developers for their success, making Expedition 33 a national point of pride and an international breakout.

With GTA 6 officially delayed until May 26, 2026, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 now has an even clearer shot at securing the Game of the Year title.

Currently, the developers are focusing on game improvements and balancing rather than immediately pursuing DLC or expansions, as stated by the co-founders of Sandfall Interactive, Guillaume Broche and Tom Guillermin, in an interview with the Washington Post.

There is also a movie adaptation in the works. Interestingly, this one signed up even before the game's release, showing how much confidence the filmmakers had in the game's narrative.
