Battlefield 6 Set to End 2025 as Best-Selling Game in the U.S.

Circana Report Shows Battlefield 6 Leading 2025 Sales Ahead of NBA 2K26 and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Battlefield 6 reigns at No.1 while Black Ops 7 enters the top 10 in Circana’s 2025 charts.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was the best-selling game of November in the U.S., but Battlefield 6 looks set to finish 2025 as the year’s overall leader.

According to Circana’s latest monthly report, Black Ops 7 debuted strongly, topping November’s charts and landing at No. 7 in the year-to-date rankings. That’s an impressive feat, continuing Call of Duty’s streak of 18 consecutive years where the franchise has led sales in its launch month. The streak began back in 2008 with World at War.

Still, the bigger picture shows Battlefield 6 holding firm at No. 1 for the year, with analysts projecting it will likely remain there through December.

Circana senior director Mat Piscatella noted that Black Ops 7’s dollar sales were lower than Black Ops 6 during its comparable launch period. The decline is partly attributed to the game’s release on Game Pass, which reduces direct sales on Xbox consoles as subscribers access the title through the service. While this boosts engagement, it makes tracking revenue more complex compared to rivals like Battlefield 6 or NBA 2K26.

It’s also clear that Black Ops 7 hasn’t matched the critical or fan reception of its predecessor. Reviews have been more mixed, European sales figures are softer, and Activision itself has acknowledged the challenges. Circana reported a double-digit decline in franchise dollar sales compared to November 2024.

Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 has enjoyed a dominant year, despite some recent technical issues introduced in a patch. Piscatella projects it is “extremely likely” to finish as the best-selling game of 2025 in the U.S.

If that happens, it would mark another rare year where Call of Duty doesn’t claim the crown. The last time this occurred was in 2023, when Hogwarts Legacy outpaced Modern Warfare 3. Before that, only Rockstar’s GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to dethrone Call of Duty since 2008.

With this shift, Activision is considering changes to how it plans and releases future Call of Duty titles. The franchise remains a juggernaut, but competition is clearly heating up.
