Cailee Spaeny is reportedly in early talks to join the cast of the upcoming live-action Elden Ring film adaptation.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, as spotted by Eurogamer, Spaeny may be reuniting with director Alex Garland, whom she previously worked with in the 2024 dystopian drama Civil War.

While her exact role in the Elden Ring project hasn’t been confirmed, many fans are guessing she could portray Melina — the spectral guide for players in the game — though other possibilities include Ranni the Witch, Malenia, or even a female version of the Tarnished protagonist.

Spaeny is no stranger to high-profile sci-fi and fantasy roles. In 2024, she headlined Alien: Romulus as Rain Carradine, a character whose likeness and voice also appeared as a purchasable skin for Ellen Ripley in Dead by Daylight. A year earlier, she earned critical praise playing the titular role in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.

The Elden Ring film was officially announced in May with Garland — known for Ex Machina and Warfare — attached as both writer and director. In a recent interview with IGN, Garland claimed that he’s deep into his seventh full playthrough of the game, showing his passion for the project.

A24 is producing the adaptation in collaboration with Bandai Namco, although it remains unclear whether FromSoftware or game director Hidetaka Miyazaki are directly involved.

According to reports by Deadline, George R.R. Martin will serve as one of the producers for the upcoming film. Martin, famous for writing the A Song of Ice and Fire book series that inspired Game of Thrones, also created the story and characters for the original Elden Ring video game.

Kit Connor (Heartstopper) is also rumored to appear in the film, following his recent role in Warfare.

In related news, the Elden Ring universe continues to thrive. Just yesterday, FromSoftware revealed that its co-op spin-off Nightreign has surpassed 5 million copies sold, while the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has crossed 10 million downloads — a clear sign that interest in the Lands Between is still going strong.
