Two of FromSoftware’s latest releases set in the Elden Ring universe have crossed major sales milestones. Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly acclaimed expansion for Elden Ring, has now sold over 10 million units worldwide, while Elden Ring: Nightreign, the new standalone co-op survival title, has reached 5 million players globally, just under two months after its launch.
The numbers were officially confirmed via a blog post on Bandai Namco's website. These milestones mark continued momentum for a franchise that has remained a sales juggernaut since the original game debuted in 2022.
Shadow of the Erdtree launched on June 21, 2024, expanding the game’s universe with a new setting known as the Land of Shadow. Players have since explored fresh biomes, battled terrifying bosses, and wielded new weapons and spells. Just three days after release, the DLC had already moved 5 million units. Now, 13 months later, it has doubled that figure, underlining its staying power and the community’s appetite for challenging content.
Meanwhile, Nightreign, released on May 30, 2025, took a different approach. This standalone game focuses on multiplayer co-op survival and lets players team up in a dangerous new world shaped by the Elden Ring mythos. Within 24 hours of launch, the sold sold 2 million copies and then 3.5 million by the weekend. Now, just two months later, it has hit the 5 million mark globally.
To give some perspective, Elden Ring as a base game crossed 30 million copies sold by April 28, 2025. That’s up from 28.6 million in December 2024 and 25 million as of April that year — showing consistent and healthy growth over time.
This momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. FromSoftware is already planning to release Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, a bundle including the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree, for the Nintendo Switch 2. On top of that, a live-action Elden Ring film is in development with production company A24 and director Alex Garland attached.
Adding to its accolades, Nightreign was also May and June 2025’s best-selling game in the U.S., outperforming several AAA competitors across major platforms. As per the developers, the next batch of Everdark Sovereigns content is also in the pipeline, promising more updates for the growing Nightreign community.
