Gameplay & Story

You play as Faye, a freshman at a mysterious island university and heir to the last demon‑hunting family. What begins as quirky campus life quickly spirals into a battle to mend the rift between worlds.

  • School‑Life Simulation: Balance studies, friendships, and side quests across a semester calendar.

  • Tactical Combat: A “motion = action” system where every step counts as an attack, dash, or ability.

  • Party Building: Recruit 15 playable characters, each with unique abilities and elemental types.

  • Difficulty: Challenging but fair – rewind mechanic reduces frustration, and there's an "almost invincible" accessibility mode.

The tone is campy and fun, mixing teen drama with light horror, think Stranger Things meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's told through massive expressive character portraits, visual-novel-style dialogue, side quests, and a semester-long calendar.

Reception & Reviews

After multiple delays, including one to avoid clashing with Hollow Knight: Silksong, Demonschool has now launched to strong early reviews:

  • Metacritic: 77 by 16 reviews

  • OpenCritic: 83 (71% recommended)

  • CGMagazine: 10/10 – “A straight-A Turn-Based Strategy game. Thoughtful, stylish, innovative, and incredibly fun.”

  • PC Gamer: 86/100 – "Devilishly moreish and hard to put down, only failed by performance snags and the absence of key quality-of-life features."

  • GameRadar: 8/10 – "Demonschool makes punching a parade of gloriously grotesque creatures an absolute riot. An approachable tactical RPG with a radioactive amount of style and flair. However, for a game about punching demons in the face, there's not a lot of crunch."

  • Noisy Pixel: 4/5 – "Demonschool has clear strengths, especially in its gameplay loop, but misses the mark on emotional depth and polish."

Critics highlight its pixel art, charismatic cast, and addictive tactical system, though some note repetitive battles and minor bugs.
