Demonschool, the indie RPG from Necrosoft Games, will no longer release on September 3, 2025, as originally planned. Instead, the game has been pushed back to November 19, 2025, with publisher Ysbryd Games confirming the delay.

The upcoming title has been highly anticipated since its reveal in 2022, drawing attention for its retro-inspired strategy RPG style reminiscent of Persona 1 and 2. With its colorful 2D visuals and tactical gameplay, Demonschool quickly caught the eye of fans and critics alike. Review codes for PC were even distributed to media ahead of the planned September launch, which makes the sudden change of plans all the more surprising.

So what caused the shift? According to a statement from Ysbryd Games, the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong played a major role. Silksong, one of the most awaited indie sequels in recent memory, is now set to release just one day after Demonschool’s original date. Ysbryd explained that launching alongside such a juggernaut would hurt Demonschool’s visibility. “If the September period is going to be Silksong’s moment, then we need to be elsewhere on the calendar to give Demonschool its own moment to be seen and talked about meaningfully,” the publisher stated.

This marks the second major delay for Demonschool, which was initially slated for release in 2024. The publisher added that this will be the final change, promising that the additional time will be used to polish the game further. Features like extra endings and minigames, which were previously planned as post-launch content, will now be included at release.

Developer Necrosoft Games also weighed in, noting that while the delay wasn’t their choice, they support the decision. “Dropping the GTA of indie games with two weeks’ notice makes everyone freak out,” the studio added.

Demonschool is now set to arrive on November 19, giving fans a little more time to wait — but hopefully an even better experience when it finally launches.
