After nearly a decade of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally has a release date — September 4, 2025 — and the announcement is already breaking records.

Team Cherry revealed the date in a special YouTube premiere that lasted less than two minutes, yet it drew in an enormous audience. According to data from StreamsCharts, the video reached a peak of 323,297 live viewers and sustained an average of 107,000 viewers throughout the stream.

Those numbers made it the second most-viewed YouTube Gaming video of the week, trailing only behind Nintendo’s massive Kirby Air Riders Direct, which peaked at over 525,000 viewers.

Fan Hype Reaches New Heights

The sheer turnout for the reveal underscores just how much anticipation has been building for Silksong. First announced in 2019, the game has been the subject of countless memes, speculations, and fan theories as Team Cherry went quiet for years at a time. The reveal trailer finally gave fans what they’d been waiting for: a concrete release date and fresh gameplay featuring Hornet, new enemies, and an expanded world.

In fact, the hype has been so strong that it’s already impacting the wider indie gaming scene. Since the trailer dropped, player numbers for the original Hollow Knight have spiked 2X on Steam, with many fans replaying the first game in preparation. Meanwhile, some smaller indie studios have shifted their release dates to avoid clashing with Silksong’s September launch, a sign of the sequel’s massive gravitational pull in the indie market.

For Team Cherry, a studio that began with just two developers back in 2014, this milestone highlights how far they’ve come. Competing with Nintendo on YouTube viewership isn’t something many indie developers can claim.
