Capcom has quietly released Dino Crisis 1 and Dino Crisis 2 on Steam, bringing back two PlayStation 1 classics with a limited-time 50% discount that drops each game to just $3.99.
This surprise drop comes roughly a year after GOG made these titles available on PC as part of its game preservation initiative.
Now, Steam users can jump into these dinosaur-themed survival horror adventures, and the good news is that both games run smoothly on Steam Deck.
Dino Crisis originally debuted in 1999, developed by the same team behind Resident Evil. The first game leaned heavily into survival horror mechanics, emphasizing resource management, puzzle-solving, and tense encounters with deadly dinosaurs.
Dino Crisis 2, released in 2000, shifted gears into a more action-oriented experience, allowing players to mow down waves of dinosaurs with increasingly over-the-top weapons.
The Steam versions come with notable optimizations. The first game sports an upgraded DirectX renderer, resolution support up to around 4K, 32-bit color depth, better geometry calculations, and support for current controllers. Everything from animations to music playback has been smoothed out, plus you get stable save functionality that actually works without issues.
The sequel brings full Windows 10 and 11 compatibility, multiple language options, an easier difficulty mode covering both Dino Colosseum and Dino Duel modes, and all those technical improvements from the first game. Graphics settings include display mode options, aspect ratio correction, various scaling methods, vertical sync, gamma correction, anisotropic filtering, and antialiasing controls.
Capcom has been bringing back some dormant franchises lately with revivals of Mega Man, Onimusha, and Okami, and they recently released Breath of Fire 4 on GOG. This has sparked speculation that a full Dino Crisis remake could be next, though nothing is confirmed, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
That said, the 50% discount only runs until February 26, so anyone interested might want to grab these sooner rather than later.
