Disney and Epic Games are joining forces to bring a massive, interactive Disney universe into Fortnite, with a fully playable Magic Kingdom and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge launching in 2026.
First teased at the State of Unreal showcase, this ambitious project will allow players to explore, build, and engage in experiences inspired by Disney’s most iconic theme parks—all powered by Unreal Engine.
This move follows Disney’s $1.5 billion investment into Epic Games in early 2024, a deal that went far beyond cosmetics and collaborations. It was the foundation for what Disney CEO Bob Iger has described as “an entirely new entertainment universe.”
What Will Fortnite’s Disney Universe Look Like?
According to early previews, Fortnite’s Magic Kingdom won’t just be a one-off event or themed skin pack. Instead, it’s being developed as a persistent ecosystem—similar to existing modes like Fortnite Festival and Lego Brick Life. Players will be able to:
Explore themed areas based on Magic Kingdom and Galaxy’s Edge
Build and customize their own Disney-inspired creations
Shop, stream, and socialize in an immersive metaverse-style space
Epic also teased connections to real-life Disney parks, including areas inspired by Marvel, Tron, and Star Wars universes, though no official confirmation has been made regarding their specific in-game presence.
Is This the Next Phase of the Metaverse?
Disney and Epic are clearly aiming higher than in-game cosmetics. The goal is to craft a fully immersive digital Disney experience inside Fortnite, one that lets fans around the world engage with the brand in new, virtual ways.
“This isn’t about Mickey Mouse wielding an AK-47,” Disney CEO quipped during the showcase. “It’s about building a world where the magic of Disney meets the tools of Unreal Engine.”
The full Disney experience inside Fortnite is expected to launch sometime in 2026, with more details to be unveiled over the next year.
Expect a hybrid of storytelling, creativity, and entertainment, with opportunities for fan-generated content and in-universe events.
Alongside the Disney collaboration, Epic is rolling out AI-powered NPCs, teasing a Squid Game crossover, and expanding its creator economy with more tools and monetization options. Check out the full Showcase here.
