Epic Games has officially announced the discontinuation of its iconic Fortnite V-Bucks cards as of June 2025, signaling a major shift in how players purchase in-game content.
After six years on store shelves, the V-Bucks cards—once a staple gift for Fortnite fans—are being phased out in favor of a more flexible and integrated system, new Fortnite gift cards.
This change aligns with Epic’s broader vision of creating a seamless digital wallet experience across its entire ecosystem, from Fortnite to the Epic Games Store.
What’s Replacing V-Bucks Cards?
Unlike the original cards that were preloaded with a set number of V-Bucks (like 1,000 or 5,000), the new Fortnite gift cards act more like a digital wallet top-up for your Epic Games account. They will be available in denominations ranging from $15 to $150, allowing players to load funds during checkout.
Once redeemed, those funds can be used for:
V-Bucks
Fortnite Crew subscriptions
In-game bundles and cosmetics
Full games or DLCs via the Epic Games Store
This expanded utility gives players more control and ties directly into Epic’s push for a cross-platform digital economy.

Why the Change?
While Epic hasn’t issued a detailed explanation, the transition likely serves multiple goals:
Streamlining payment systems across Epic’s titles
Reducing fraud risks associated with traditional gift cards
Enhancing flexibility for users purchasing content outside of Fortnite
Promoting the Epic Games Store as a central hub for purchases
This move also supports Epic Rewards, the company's cashback-style loyalty program. Players who use these new gift cards will receive 20% back in Epic Rewards across Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys—when they use Epic’s direct payment system.
Further, the move positions Epic to better support upcoming in-game experiences, including the Disney-themed Magic Kingdom and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge universe coming to Fortnite in 2026. These new cards could become a go-to option for funding exclusive Disney content.
What About Existing V-Bucks Cards?
Epic confirmed that existing V-Bucks cards will remain redeemable for now. However, they will gradually disappear from retail stores, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany, and no new V-Bucks cards will be printed going forward.
Are V-Bucks Being Removed?
No. V-Bucks will remain Fortnite’s primary in-game currency, used to purchase skins, emotes, Battle Passes, and more. You’ll still be able to buy them directly in-game or through these new gift cards by converting the loaded funds.
End of an Era?
Social media buzz has been divided, with one user writing, “Sad to see V-Bucks cards go, but this new system sounds way more versatile,” while another posted, “End of an era. Used to grab a card every time I went to Target.”
As an added bonus, players who redeem the new gift cards will unlock the exclusive GHOST Monks Outfit in Fortnite, available through 2026.
