Elden Ring Nightreign The Forsaken Hollows DLC: Full Release Times, Content, and Access Guide

If you’ve been looking for a solid reason to dive back into Elden Ring Nightreign, this week’s DLC drop might be exactly what you need. The Forsaken Hollows arrives on December 4, bringing a surprisingly large chunk of content—from two new playable Nightfarers to a brand-new underworld map—without forcing you through any overly complicated access requirements.

I’ve gone through everything Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have shared so far, and there’s a lot for us to talk about if you want a fresh challenge.

Fantasy warriors brandish weapons under a stormy sky. Text reads: "Elden Ring: Nightreign, The Forsaken Hollows." Dark, mystical mood.

What’s Included in The Forsaken Hollows DLC

As per early previews and developer insights from GameSpot and Bandai Namco, here’s everything that’s coming our way:

Two New Nightfarers

  • 1. Scholar: Academic with high arcane. Analyze skill surveys for stackable buffs/debuffs (e.g., stamina boost, barriers, enemy attack down). Bagcraft passive upgrades consumables. Ultimate Communion links allies/enemies for shared damage/healing.

  • 2. Undertaker: Abbess slayer with strength/faith scaling (hammers). Trance boosts speed/toughness/dodge on bloodletting. Ultimate Loathsome Hex launches fast bone attacks, refills stamina. Confluence passive triggers her ultimate off teammates.

New Bosses & Nightlords

  • New third-day Nightlords

  • The terrifying Balancers boss

  • Returning legends like Artorias the Abysswalker, Demon Prince, and Mohg, as reported by early gameplay breakdowns

  • New enemy types such as Death Knights and Sundered Tricephalos

According to reports from gameplay previews and interviews, this DLC follows the FromSoft tradition of making expansions "a little harder" than the base game. Director Junya Ishizaki told GameSpot that finding the right balance was a major priority, noting that the new content aims to challenge veterans without overwhelming newer players.

New Shifting Earth Event: The Great Hollow

The highlight of the DLC is the Shifting Earth update, which introduces an entirely new underworld zone called Great Hollow. This place is packed with cursed crystals, ancient ruins, and new points of interest that tie into both exploration and combat. You’ll notice verticality playing a much bigger role here—a design shift director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged, noting that some of this inspiration may have subconsciously come from Shadow of the Erdtree.

Swamp Areas Added

There’s a swamp this time. A toxic, painful, classic-fromSoft swamp finally returned to Nightreign.

How to Access The Forsaken Hollows

Good news: this might be the most straightforward DLC access process in FromSoftware history.

To unlock Scholar & Undertaker

  • Defeat Tricephalos (Gladius, Beast of Night)

  • Visit Roundtable Hold

  • Talk to the Iron Menial to get a message from the Small Jar Merchant

  • Defeat Tricephalos

  • Defeat at least one other Nightlord

  • Unlock both new Nightfarers

  • Visit the Small Jar Merchant

  • A new chapel opens behind him

  • Enter to begin “The Great Hollows” Shifting Earth event

If you’ve been actively running Nightreign content, chances are you’re already prepared for the DLC the moment it drops.

Price & Platforms

The Forsaken Hollows DLC is priced at $15 USD and is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

It’s included as part of the Deluxe Edition, so you won’t need to pay again if you already own that version.
