Georgia Investigates Roblox Following Multiple Child Predator Incidents

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has opened an investigation into Roblox over concerns about "child safety" on the popular gaming platform.

The probe aims to determine "whether the company is violating state consumer protection laws and putting kids at risk."

The investigation comes after numerous incidents where children were allegedly targeted by predators on the platform.

One recent case involved two girls from Florida who went missing after communicating with a 19-year-old stranger on Roblox. Georgia State Patrol troopers eventually found the girls, and the suspect from Nebraska now faces kidnapping charges along with other serious allegations.

Another disturbing incident from 2023 saw an adult pretending to be a child use the platform's chat features to groom a 12-year-old boy into sending explicit photographs.

Carr made his position clear in a public statement about the investigation. "Predators are using online platforms like Roblox to go after our children, and we're fighting back," he said. "As a father and Attorney General, keeping kids safe will always be my top priority, and any company that exposes them to harm will be held accountable."

The attorney general has issued a Civil Investigative Demand to Roblox requesting extensive documentation. This includes reports of abuse from Georgia users, records of harm experienced by children on the platform, and details about parental control effectiveness.

The company must also provide information about their chat and game moderation systems, age verification procedures, and any audits related to adult-child interactions. Marketing materials that promote the platform as suitable for children are also being requested.

Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman responded to the investigation:

"As a platform built with a young audience in mind, Roblox has a history of pioneering industry-leading safeguards designed to monitor for harmful content and proactively block the exchange of images and personal information in chat,” Kaufman said. “Our commitment to safety has no finish line. In early 2026, we completed the global rollout of mandatory Facial Age Estimation, making Roblox the first major platform to require age checks for all users to access chat features. We take swift action when we identify violations of our rules and work closely with law enforcement to hold bad actors accountable. While no system is perfect, we look forward to working with the Attorney General’s office to help keep kids safe online."

Legal action against Roblox has been increasing nationwide. Last year, state attorneys general from South Carolina, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Iowa initiated investigations into Roblox, many of which have escalated into full lawsuits.
