Texas Sues Roblox, Accuses Platform of “Ignoring Safety Laws” and “Deceiving Parents”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing the company of “flagrantly ignoring” online safety laws and “deceiving parents” about the dangers the platform poses to children.

In a statement shared on social media, Paxton didn’t hold back, calling Roblox a “breeding ground for predators.” He went on to accuse the platform of prioritizing “pixel pedophiles and corporate profit” over the well-being of children in Texas. According to Paxton, the lawsuit seeks to hold Roblox accountable for enabling environments where young players are allegedly exposed to explicit content, grooming, and other forms of online exploitation.

We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators,” Paxton wrote. “Any corporation that enables child abuse will face the full and unrelenting force of the law.”

The lawsuit places Roblox alongside other major tech platforms that have faced legal challenges over child safety, including TikTok, which Paxton also sued earlier this year. Texas now joins states like Kentucky and Louisiana, which have launched similar lawsuits against Roblox.

Roblox, however, has strongly rejected these allegations. In a statement to the BBC, a spokesperson said the company is “disappointed” that it is being sued based on what it calls “misrepresentations and sensationalized claims.” The company emphasized that it shares Paxton’s commitment to keeping children safe online and has implemented several safety measures to protect its users.

“We’ve taken consistent steps to remove bad actors and strengthen safety systems,” Roblox said. “We want our players, especially children, to have a safe and enjoyable experience.”

Roblox reiterated that it rolled out video-based age verification technology to ensure that only players of appropriate age can access certain features like chat and voice communication. It also announced that under-13 users are now blocked from sending messages unless a parent or guardian grants permission.

Despite these efforts, Paxton insists that Roblox continues to mislead parents about the level of danger children face on the platform. He accused the company of masking the risks under the guise of being a “family-friendly” environment while failing to prevent exposure to harmful content.
