Ubisoft’s next mainline Ghost Recon game, currently codenamed “Ovr,” is expected to enter its internal alpha stage in Fall 2025.
According to a report by Insider Gaming, this alpha build signals Ubisoft’s broader shift in strategy as it realigns timelines across its major IPs. Following multiple internal delays and restructuring announcements, the publisher is pacing its projects more carefully.
If all goes to plan, the next Ghost Recon title could be ready for release by Fall 2026, allowing roughly a year between internal alpha and final launch — a timeline similar to that of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, which hit its alpha in June 2025 and is expected before March 2026.
While Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed details, reports claimed that the next installment will take a first-person military simulation (mil-sim) direction — a noticeable shift from previous third-person entries.
The game is reportedly set during the fictional “Naiman War,” taking place in a war-torn southeastern country plagued by atrocities and human rights violations. Players will take on the role of the “Ghosts,” a covert special forces team tasked with dangerous infiltration missions and uncovering a potential traitor in their ranks.
The gameplay has drawn comparisons to Modern Warfare, Battlefield, Squad, and Ready or Not, with an emphasis on squad-based coordination and tactical realism. Graphically, it’s reportedly a step up from previous entries, showcasing environments and character models that align more closely with modern high-fidelity shooters.
While an official reveal date remains uncertain, sources suggest Ubisoft is keeping Ghost Recon: Ovr under wraps until at least mid-to-late 2026, possibly reserving a big reveal for a future Ubisoft Forward event.
