The God of War franchise has been a PlayStation staple since 2005, but despite its popularity, Hollywood has never managed to bring Kratos’ story to the screen. That changed in 2022 when Prime Video officially announced a live-action series based on the rebooted Norse saga, with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions involved. Reports now suggest filming will begin in Spring 2026, and with casting underway, the project is finally moving forward.

According to the leaked descriptions, the show is searching for actors to portray characters that clearly resemble Kratos, Atreus, Odin, Baldur, and Sif — though the names have been changed in the documents. For example, “Zion,” a muscular man in his 40s to 60s haunted by loss, is almost certainly Kratos. “Joshua,” a boy aged 9 to 12 seeking his father’s approval, is a clear stand-in for Atreus. Meanwhile, “Alexander,” described as a manipulative patriarch obsessed with prophecy, strongly resembles Odin.

One interesting detail is that Atreus (Joshua) is listed as a one-year series regular, suggesting the role may be recast as the character ages in later seasons. In the games, Atreus grows up across multiple entries but was voiced and performed by the same actor, Sunny Suljic. This change could mean the show plans to accelerate his growth or take creative liberties with the timeline.

Other roles include “Glen,” likely Baldur, and “Phoebe,” who matches Sif. Both characters are described with complex backstories and will require actors comfortable with combat-heavy and mature scenes.
