Halo Studios has officially confirmed it will reveal more details about the future of the Halo franchise later this year, with major announcements planned for the 2025 Halo World Championship in October.
In a recent post on the official Halo Waypoint blog, the studio directly addressed the growing buzz around what's next for the long-running Xbox series. While Halo Studios typically avoids commenting on rumors, this time it chose to give fans a clear hint: something big is coming, and it’ll happen during this year’s championship event in Seattle, scheduled for October 24–26.
The blog post reflects on last year’s championship, where the studio—formerly known as 343 Industries—announced its rebrand to Halo Studios and previewed “Project Foundry,” a tech demo built using Unreal Engine 5. The switch to Epic’s game engine marked a major shift for the franchise, which had previously used the in-house Slipspace engine for Halo Infinite.
This year, fans are being promised a continuation of that momentum. “Speculation is always fun,” the post reads, “but if you want the official scoop on what Halo Studios has been working on, you won’t want to miss this year’s Halo World Championship.”
Interestingly, Halo Studios emphasized that it’s not just working on a single title, but on “multiple projects.” Some believe a full remake of Halo: Combat Evolved could be on the table, especially considering references spotted in Project Foundry and subtle hints dropped by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Spencer teased the return of a “classic that’s been with us since the beginning,” fueling hopes of Halo’s original adventure being reborn.
Others are hopeful that a sequel to Halo Infinite is in development, potentially pushing the franchise into a new gameplay era. There’s also excitement around the possibility of genre spin-offs. Many fans have called for a third-person co-op shooter in the style of Helldivers 2, while others continue to request Halo Wars 3, especially after the strong narrative elements introduced in Halo Wars 2.
Studio head Pierre Hintze had previously described the current era of Halo as “a new chapter,” following Bungie and 343 Industries’ respective runs. He emphasized a new creative approach, stating, “We’re not just going to try to improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games.”
For fans who have followed the franchise through its highs and lows, this year’s Halo World Championship might just mark the beginning of a new high point or Chapter 3. Whether it's a remake, a new mainline entry, or something unexpected, Halo Studios appears ready to step into the spotlight once again.
The event will be streamed live on both Twitch and YouTube.
