“Hell is Us” is one of the intriguing and ambitious action-adventure titles coming in 2025. Developed by Rogue Factor and published by Nacon, the game is set to launch on September 4, 2025, for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Set in a war-torn semi-open world called Hadea, players step into the role of Rémi, on a personal journey to find his parents amidst supernatural threats. With a minimal HUD, no map markers, and a heavy focus on exploration and immersion, Hell is Us combines 90s design philosophies with modern visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5.
But while fans are excited about the gameplay, the PC system requirements have sparked controversy—especially at higher graphical settings. Let’s break it down.
PC System Requirements for Hell is Us (All Tiers)
Rogue Factor has shared five distinct spec tiers—Minimum to Ultra—each reflecting the game's demand for high-end hardware, particularly due to Unreal Engine 5’s use of Nanite and Lumen.

Additional Notes on System Requirements
Storage Needs: The game requires 30 GB of SSD storage across all tiers, which is relatively modest compared to other modern titles that often exceed 100 GB.
RAM Consistency: All tiers require 16 GB RAM, which is standard but may surprise gamers given the large jump in GPU/CPU demands.
DLSS/FSR Dependence: The ultra settings’ reliance on DLSS/FSR for 4K at 30 FPS has been a major point of contention. These upscaling technologies are designed to improve performance by rendering at a lower resolution and upscaling to the target resolution, but achieving only 30 FPS on an RTX 4090—a GPU capable of far higher frame rates in other titles—suggests optimization issues.
Community Reaction: Optimization Controversy
The response has been mixed-to-critical, especially regarding ultra-tier specs.
“RTX 4090 for upscaled 4K at 30FPS is a joke,”— @NikTekOfficial on X
“PS5 will probably run this at 540p 19FPS.”— @Puertorock77_
“This isn’t just demanding; it’s poor optimization.”— @Vovô Leandro
Fans argue that the game’s graphical demand doesn’t match its size (30 GB) and point to better-optimized titles like Cyberpunk 2077, where a 4090 can reach 140+ FPS at 4K with ray tracing enabled.
In response, the devs explained these are “ideal specs” and that lower-performance systems can still run the game—just not at ultra settings.
"These are “ideal specs” — it doesn’t mean you can’t run the game on lower settings. We’d rather be cautious than risk disappointing players by overpromising."
Further, in a details post via Steam, the developer clarifies that their performance estimates are based on “very conservative benchmarks,” with the Ultra settings designed to prioritize visual quality over performance.
"By default, "Hell is Us" uses Unreal Engine 5’s Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) for upscaling, but it also supports NVIDIA DLSS, Intel XeSS, and AMD FSR, all of which will be updated to their latest versions at launch in September 2025. "
"So... 30 FPS on a 4090? With Ultra settings, we prioritize visual fidelity over framerate. That said, the RTX 4090 will run Hell is Us at higher than 30 FPS in 4K Ultra—but it may not consistently reach 60 FPS. We’re simply being realistic in our communication to avoid overpromising. Our goal is to set clear expectations, not to limit what your system can achieve."
